...I have to say I'm impressed, and I see why the coaching staff and Jeff Ireland are so high on him.

I'll admit, I wasn't thrilled about the prospect of us taking him and these are the reasons why:

* 61% completion percentage in today's college football isn't impressive, and doesn't lend to the notion of an accurate QB

* Converted WR?

* 19 starts at QB; inexperience

* Why couldn't he beat out Jerrod Johnson prior to his Junior year?

* High hopes for A&M in the pre-season yet went 7-6 with some blown games in 2nd half

I'll also be the first to admit that though I watch college FB, I had a cursory knowledge of A&M, and only watched half of a game last season; I was ignorant to who and what Ryan Tannehill is.

Now, after spending the last few hours watching a good number of his games from last season, I'm actually very impressed and happy with our new QB, and here's why:

* Though his comp % was 61, he is actually pretty accurate and has good ball placement. I believe I read that he had a ton of drops from his receivers last season; if I'm not mistaken I heard 68 total, and you see it on tape; they dropped a ton of balls in the few games I watched. If you add that 68 back into his completions, brings his number to 74%. Though I understand this methodology isn't an exact science, it lends more to what I saw in those games.

* He is very athletic. For a guy his size, he can move; not RG3, but better than most QBs in the NFL

* He ran the WC offense in college, and he looked decisive and deadly accurate on those bubble screens and quick hitches, skinny posts, quick slants, etc., a key component in this offense

* He looked very much in control of the offense; coming to the line reading the defense, calling hot routes

* Strong arm, quick release

* I just liked the rhythm on his drop back, set, and release

I won't profess to be a football guru or anything of the such, but I'd like to think I know a little something. I don't expect Tannehill to be ready to start on opening day, as he's still a bit inexperienced, still learning the nuances of the position, and will need to adjust to the speed of the NFL, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. If Philbin and Sherman can develop this kid, I could see him being one hell of a QB for us.

On one of the games, the comentator (I believe Gus Johnson) mentioned the reason he didn't get the nod over Jerrod Johnson earlier was because of Mike Sherman's loyalty to Johnson. He worked closely with him to help him become a more polished QB and wanted to give him every opportunity to lead the team. Tannehill was finally given the nod halfway into his junior season after spending the previous two at WR.

I agree I am super excited to have him he is a great add and will be the face of this team for many years to come

I like what ive seen from him so far on tape. I believe he has what it takes to be successful in a wco because of the aforementioned qualities. Im hoping this is finally the end of our decade long search.

Can you post some of the videos u watched and reasons y u like him. I have been watching vids on him for the last 3-4 weeks (cuz i had a feeling we would draft him), and i havent really seen whats so exciting about him. Stares down WRs and makes some throws that really have you nobbing your head and thinking WTF was that. I want to like him but havent seen it. Im also not a draft expert but i just dont see it.

I've watched 15 of Tannehill's 19 starts over the last 2 seasons and your post is exactly why I loved him from 2010 and am extremely excited He is a Miami Dolphin. He may take a year or 2 to be ready, but will be worth the wait. Too much is being made by the TV pundits about his accuracy, but the dropped passes can't be ignored. I have never felt as strongly as I do about any QB during draft time (where Miami is Concerned) like I do about Tannehill. I'm no guru, but his talent is obvious. I like Tannehill better than Gabbert, Locker, Ponder and feel he will have a better career than Mallett, who many liked last year.

I think part of the reason he did not replace Johnson was because Sherman believed he was a phenomenal WR. He lead the team two straight years and as a red shirt Freshman in receiving. He would be a second round pick at worse if he would have stayed playing WR. I can see the coaches perspective think he could be an NFL WR and why ruin that. Of course Tannehill believes in himself as a QB first even when leading the team as a WR.

Go to YouTube, there are tons of his games, and not just "highlights" but shows all the throws he made the whole game. He threw 3 ints in one game, but i only see one being fully "his fault" (bad read). One his receiver fell, and the other was deflected.

All in all, I saw far more good than bad, and the bad are very fixable.

funny how those defending the tannehill pic bring up all the dropped passes and td's by wr's that counted against his accuracy. evren though his accuracy was iffy WITHOUT the drops!

but no one brings that out for matt moore who actually had good accuracy numbers despite being plagued by wr's dropping passes.

everyone has gone on and on about how glad they are that brandon marshall was gone because of all the td's and easy passes he dropped and how much better we would have been and how many more games we would have won had he held on to those passes. and, its true, no doubt.

but who threw him those td's and catchable, gimme passes?

MATT MOORE!!!

so i have to ask, how would all the moore haters feel about him had marshall and others not dropped so many big play passes and td's? they blame marshall for killing games with dropped plays but curse matt moore for doing his part and puting the ball in the hands of those players?

i feel real bad for matt moore. the guy has been thrown into the worst situations a qb could have, produced and then made the scape goat.

will you all be doing the same thing to tannehill when these things happen to him or will he get get his props when the ones he throws to dont do their part? its gonna be real interesting to see how much time and leeway he gets with the fans that matt moore never got.

after reviewing "tape"?

how would you end up with texas a&m game and or practice tape?

did you actually mean you tivo'd a couple of last years a&m games?

not knockin' ya but college and nfl scout and practice and game TAPES/FILM are not widely available. not to the public and ebay isnt full of those kind of things.

so, are you in fact a SCOUT? an nfl staffer or assistant coach? if so, very cool! just say it. you dont have to divulge what team you work for but talking about "tape" lends credability and true insight if you are a part of the game and really do have access to things other than tivo'd games like the rest of the world has.

Really man? He never stated he had the team's personal film, and you don't need the endzone angle and wide angle film to analyze a player. You're being facetious. You can watch every snap from a tivo'd game that was on television the same as you can the coach's tape. Granted, you can't see the route progressions and the whole field at once, but you can get a good enough idea of a QBs ability if you take the time to watch every snap. The camera stays on the QB until the ball is out of his hands. The OP never claimed to have special powers or privileges and even said he's not a guru. It was his opinion after watching 15 of his FULL games and not just highlights. More than what MOST people on this site who have an opinion of Tannehill have done. Give it a rest dude, you're always trying to call somebody out.

I appreciate the time spent, it's more than 98% of this board would do

Nice write up man..You dont have to be a coach or a scout to see the things you did.

Football is pretty simple

I agree that it appears he locks on to receivers, however I do not know if this is because he is truly locked on or if is scanning his progressions with is eyes rather than his head. I am guessing it is he is locking on to receivers, Even then he made a ton of the difficult passes so I dont know. I do know I am excited for this young man and cannot wait to see what we got. Hopefully we get to see him in some blowout wins in garbage time.

Dude can throw on the run almost if not better than Aaron Rodgers.

I've seen him go thru progressions multiple times. Needs to sharpen up in that category, but he does do it.
