Agent: Giants agree to deal with former Dolphins CB Madison

GIANTS STRIKE DEAL WITH SAM



A league source tells us that the New York Giants have reached an agreement with former Dolpins corner Sam Madison.



Madison will receive a $2 million signing bonus, and base salaries of 900,000 in 2006, $1.2 million in 2007, $1.5 million in 2008, and $1.8 million in 2009.



The deal also provides that if Madison has four or more picks in 2006, 2007, and/or 2008, the next year's salary will go up by $250,000 for each year in which he meets the threshold.



The deal is expected to be signed later on Friday, or on Saturday.

Good for Madison. But at those numbers, why couldn't he restructure with Miami? They seem kind of low. Perhaps he truly was not wanted here by the coaching staff.

I think it's probable that he wasn't wanted here even at those numbers by the coaching staff. He just plays a different style of corner than what they want.

Because he was not a free agent, he was released. The reason he's not a Phin is because he can't tackle for ****, not physical, old, etc. I agree with the release.

He can sign before the start of free agency because he was cut. Glover did the same thing signing with the Rams after he was cut by Dallas. You only have to wait if your a free agent.

If you are realeased and a vetran of 6 years you can be signed at once ala Glover in St. Louis last week

Players that are cut become free agents, while players who were in the last year of a contract do not become free agents until the new year starts(which is the ever changing deadline 12:01est tonight)

Plus Sam was good for a 15 yd. personal foul penalty every game. And a PI or IC every game and as stated above: cannot tackle.

Still... for a team with no proven corners (we have two that might be able to start) a vet at that price would have been a great deal. I guess Saban is thinking corner in the draft.
