Mike Martz is feeling better and would like to return to the St. Louis Rams' sideline this season, his agent said Tuesday.
In a move that caught the team off guard, Bob LaMonte told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Tuesday that the coach will ask his doctors for permission to coach again.
"Mike's original plan was to retreat to San Diego and reflect on the future, but he has started to feel so well, walking two or three miles a day … the bottom line: he feels great," LaMonte said.
Martz has not yet been cleared by doctors to return, and Rams president John Shaw spent last week negotiating a contract adjustment, which would increase interim coach Joe Vitt's salary to approximately $1 million for an entire season, prorated to the first game Vitt coached in October, team sources told Mortensen.
