Jason Allen's agent Mitch Frankel on the impasse prior to camp (Sun-Sentinel 6/28):

"I have a history of getting the players in on time, but it takes two sides to accomplish that. I'm not concerned about the money. It's the terms."

Frankel now says (Miami Herald 8/4):

''We've discussed both a five-year and a six-year contract and we would be willing to do a six-year contract,'' Frankel said. ``The hold-up now is not the length of the contract. We just haven't been able to agree on the overall terms.''

Sounds like double talk to me. He's caught and is trying to lip stick on the pig.

-Get the deal done , Mitchy.

Mr. Yu, your logic is flawed.

In the first quote, he's basically saying that he wants a 5 year deal. Its not the money, its the length of the deal.

In the second quote, he's conceding to the 6 year deal, but they gotta increase the $ if he'll accept that consession.

in both quotes he said it's the overall terms he's concerned about. no doubletalk.

oh crap... look who agree on something for once.

time to edit my reply.

Doesn't sound like double talk to me.

Apparently nowadays anything that you don't understand gets to be chided as doubletalk.

Hardly. I do understand what has happened. The agent wanted 5 years all along while the Fins wanted to give him 6. The Fins have stuck to their guns and now he's making out that it wasn't the length of the contract. He's saying this to cover himself as he knows he needs to close the deal on 6 years. Common knowledge & well published from all sources including Frankel & Saban that the hold out has been over the difference in years.

Guys , I corrected an error.

"terms" of a contract are much much more then just the length. It has to do with bonuses, salary, escalators, clauses, and many more things, things I'm sure I don't even know about.

 HUH?

Early reports said that the Fins wanted 6 years and Allen wanted 4 so he could cash in on FA faster.

How is it double talk? To me it sounds like the agent said he want a 5 year deal, however said they will go 6 if you give him more money.

Thanks for the civil response. I agree with your statement on contracts. What we have known is the primary hold up to this deal has been the additional year. That has been stated and published. He is now one of the last rookies not in camp. Even the Herald headlined the article that Allen may be closer to signing due to the reference Frankel made over the 6 year deal being possible.

My apologies on the typo as I meant 6 years by the Fins. I'm taking more hits than google.:D
