Air it out...Jags game analysis

Jaguars D is the main reason the Jags are a contending team (there offensive rushing is above average too). However, there injury report shows that their Nickel Corner (Terry Cousin), Strong Safety (Donovan Darius), Backup Free Safety (Nick Sorensen), Right Corner (Brian Williams) are all pretty much out of this game, and even their backup Corner (Ahmad Carrol) has a similar injury to Will Allen but should play... What does that all mean...
AIR IT OUT!! we lost Ronnie Brown for this game, and we should run some to keep the defense honest, but we should definitely pass heavy in this game and spread the offense...the Jags Secondary is heavily depleted. Their front four are way above average (actually their two Defensive Tackles are what makes the front four so good, their Defensive End Bobby McCray is good too though). Their Linebackers are below average so Mcmichael and/or Justin Peele could have big games.
The only player on their defensive side that scares me is Rashean Mathis. He is a great cover corner who leads the league in INTs with 6. He will be covering Chris Chambers, so look for Chambers to once again have a below average day. Other than Mathis, their corners are either injured or just not that intimidating. Look for Booker and Welker to have nice recieving stats.
Look for Harrington to have a higher than his average completion percentage, but low yards per attempt as the Jags front four will probably put a lot of pressure on our Oline and consequently, Joey Harrington. Lets go Fins!

I've been preaching the 5 wide set all week. I agree man, we do need to air it out and get the Chris Chambers comming out party started!

i agree... with sammy morris likely the #1 back... we'll be passing like crazy.... sammy is very good out of the backfield he basically does everything pretty well except secure the ball. The Jags secondary is wounded and we'll attack it no doubt. Ofcourse in our current state CC will be a role-player... with guys like Marty, Randy, and Wes thriving. I see us having moderate to little success running with a consistent short game going, like usual. On D... i'm quite confident... only Matt Jones and MJD scare me when concerning our denfense..... but ofcourse Fred Taylor, Reggie and Ernie W can hurt us. I think we'll pull this one off we're on a bit of a roll and we've been playing much better than the jags... we should win actually.

I really wish we would mix it up a little more we have have a basic, predictable offense again.... Trick plays isn't mixing it up... We're capable of having alot of success in 3+ WR sets. As for Chambers... for him to start breaking out we'd have to keep him in the slot as much as possible.. and that wouldn't help our offense much what with us still having the inability to sretch the D. Chris probably would be lucky to have a decent game this year. With our running game struggling he's the big bullseye for defenses to key on. When our running game is kicking like late last year CC flys free like a bird.

Good post. Yes we can have success in a 3 wide set, but I believe we can achieve more with 5 targets. There isn't much need to try and fool the Jags, they know we aren't going to beat them on the run. Why fight it, just spread them out and let it be known we are throwing all day.

I like your assesment of Chambers. I just think that at some point Joey will get Chris going. They say they're close, but we'll just have to see.

Yes, 5 wide set is good for us. More opportunity for one of our playmakers to get open downfield. We need to run that more.

Make McMike a reciever and move Chris around to differnt spots all day. Confuse the secondary and make them scramble to find their assignment on each play. Mularky seems to be decided that he needs to keep Chambers on the same side and wide every time.

Mike- Free your players up. Let them move around and give the defense more looks! It works, just ask Linehan!

I got a question for all of you CC buffs. Last year didn't CC play the slot??? And if yes, is he in the slot this year or mainly on the outside??

"excuse me if I am asking an obvious question, I have the Flu very bad"
Thanks

Look at my above post brother man.

Chambers has been stuck on the outside ALL THE TIME this year. Last year he was consistantly moved around and made his money running the seam routes from the slot. Just about all of his big plays came over the middle from the slot.

Okay, thanks. I am so out of it, I can't read straight.

I hope they move him around too.

We should throw a lot of screens as well against the Jags. Get those Jags DTs to second guess and play a bit softer.

 Agreed my friend. Quick hits and hot reads should be incorporated as well. (Even though those are already Joey's favorite throws.) We need to do whatever possible to stretch the defense horizontally and wear those DTs down and keep them in nickle and dime packages. This can all be done by 4 and 5 wide sets, quick hits and hot reads, and like you said, scree plays. I would like to see Minor utilized out of the backfield as a reciever as well. Stretch that D up and across the field, that's the game plan!

Yes. There's an article on Chambers in the herald today:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/football/16127662.htm

Some of the reasons it hasn't been happening until now is that quarterback Joey Harrington rarely waits very long in the pocket for deep routes to develop. And the Miami coaching staff has decided not to move Chambers around -- playing him in the slot sometimes -- so as to not upset the assignments for other players.

''I know I haven't been moving as much [as last season], so I'm not really freed up,'' Chambers said. 'Teams know I'm going to line up on the wide side of the field. We can't move Wes [Welker] outside because he's not an outside receiver. So we have to maximize Wes' ability inside. I have no problem with that.

``When you're wide side, Joey is not as comfortable doing some things to that side, so I understand that, too. Then you have to think if the deep ball may be a weaker part of his [game]. But I think with the things we're working on, things will work out. That's pretty much what I'm waiting for. If I can get back in the rhythm these last five games, that's going to make our offense that much better.''

hmmm, and Joey will have 1.3 seconds for that deep pattern to develop... before he is flattened.

If Mathis is covering CC, look for him to be invisible again. He loses most battles against top CB's

Those screen plays don't work for us.

Put CC in the slot and you would think that McMike should have a good game since Darius is out.
