AJ and his 2006 roster bonus

It's hard to teach a 28 year old QB to throw the ball accurately and not make bad decisions. The fact that Saban has said Gus will get the same chance to start says a lot about his/Linehan's evaluation of Feeley.

What a bunch a bunk....maybe it's just smart to sign a older vet that already knows the system....to help the other QB's? It's hard to evaluate anyone..on last season. Anyone with half a brain could see that NO QB could play when he was getting the crap kicked out of him...before the play had time to develop.
No Running game....no blocking out the pass rush....please tell me what QB would have done better....I've heard the same thing...over and over....from Feidler...to griese...and now Feeley....maybe it's more than just the QB....since Griese played alot better and just signed a large contract with another team....I just hope Feidler doesn't have any luck against us....then what will some of you cry? If you want to know what Saban thinks of the O-line....just look at the players he's bringing in...and the O-line coach....maybe that should tell you all you need to know.

This is true. His college coach even said Feeley's biggest weakness is that he throws the ball to the defense alot. Alot of people are saying Feeley deserves a year, that kind of talk is the same that Wayne used when he let Wanny stay another year. Neither of them did anything to deserve anything. Do you have any idea the cost to the franchise to give Feeley a year or even 8 games to prove himself? The fact is wrong decisions cost plenty. It's time to start making the right decisions and Saban is on track.

What was "bunk" about what I said. Feeley has never thrown the football accurately. He didn't in college, didn't in Philly, and didn't here. You think Linehan and Garret are suddenly going to change that at this stage in his career?

And Gus was brought in to compete for a starting job. Since I think Gus is simply a quality backup, the fact that Saban/Linehan think he might be good enough to start ahead of Feeley tells me they looked at Feeley in college, Philly, and Miami and weren't very impressed.

Where did they say that Ferrotte was going to start...in fact...Saban stated that Feeley was the Dolphins starter....thats in print....do we expect that all QB's will compete....heck yea....even Marino had scrubs that competed against him in training camp....but he started out the Dolphins QB and finished that way...and unless Feeley gets hurt...so will he. Just curious, did you say when he threw that Touchdown to win against the Pats....gee that throw wasn't accurate?....I'll bet you leaped for joy like the rest of us.

If memory serves me correctly, AJ had the NFL's highest rating out of the shot-gun. I believe our new OC loves the shot-gun, you'll see a few more ints, but thats part of being a gunslinger. AJ's gonna dominate:fire:

for the last time, NO HE DIDN'T!!!!!!!!!

we had a thread that you chose to ignore, and Schefter even asked AJ in his interview if he was told by Saban that he was the starter, and Feeley SAID NO!

Stop believing only what you want to hear

from SCall13's thread started 1/27

Correction: Because of a reporting error, The Palm Beach Post on Wednesday incorrectly attributed a quote to Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban. The quote was from Dolphins General Manager Rick Spielman, who said on his ESPN 760-AM radio show that "A.J. (Feeley) will be the No. 1 guy, but we'll bring in guys to push him. He's going to have to prove his consistency and see how he adjusts to the new system and what we're going to do."

Where did I say that Saban said Gus is going to start? I didn't. I said that Saban said he would compete for the starting job with Feeley, he's been quoted as such. Saban has NEVER said Feeley was the Dolphins starter. Feeley himself said that Saban has not told him he's the starter and in Saban's radio interview last week he said Gus and Feeley would both compete for the starting job.

I say Feeley isn't accurate and your comeback is to mention one pass? How about the game costing INTs in Seattle, the game losing 5 INTs against Buffalo, the 48% completions against Denver, the 40% completions and INT against Arizona, the 48% completions and 2 INTs against Pittsburgh, etc.

AJ will probably end up being cut before the 2006-2007 season because of cap reasons and what will probably be a failed attempt of having a GREAT season. He won't get his bonus, and I don't think he'll be getting his 3.5 million salary in 2006-07.

3.5 mill for a starting QB isnt much. As for the bonus, if it is true, Im sure Feeley would restructure to stay with the team, because he knows we give him the best chance to start.

Who Cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If A.J. sucks, than obviously he won't get the roster bonus. I know the teaM WILL HAVE GOOD ENOUGH MANAGEMENT TO FIGURE THAT OUT. We need the draft to happen 'cause this speculation is starting to get old. Why would anyone be worried about a roster bonus a year and a half in advance>

I've seen links that talks about his salary. I'll do a search and post if I find it.

I appreciate the offer of assitance but unless you can find bonus information or the NFL sources completely lied there is no $5 million roster bonus next year. The Miami papers reported a 5 year $18 million contract including a $3 million signing bonus. The AP and USA Today reported a $21.6 million contract. With the known base salaries of $14.645 million that leaves only $3.955 million of unknown incentives and/or roster bonuses, which are usually spread out over the term of the contract.

The Dolphins usually only pay such a large bonus such as $5 million as part of a split signing bonus. Examples are Zack Thomas and Chris Chambers.

Feeley's base salary does jump up to $3.5 million in 2006 for an unfriendly(for his performance to date) cap charge of $4.1 million without any incentives or other bonuses.

Fiedler starting QB for 5th straight season
Associated Press ESPN
They traded a second-round draft pick in March for Feeley, who had been Philadelphia's third-string quarterback. Then they signed him to a five-year deal worth $21.6 million.

Key arrivals  QB A.J. Feeley/ex-Eagle, March 3 (acquired in exchange for conditional second-round draft choice in 2005; signed for five years, $18 million, $3.5 million SB).

This has received next to no play on this board but (if I'm not mistaken) AJ is due a $5 million plus roster bonus next year. If that's to happen, he is going to have to improve exponentially. This past year, he posted a 61.7 QB raing, which is pathetic. Even if he improves to the 75-80 range, it's unlikely that would be enough secure his position and in turn his roster bonus. Do you really want to pay a 29 year old QB a $5 million plus roster bonus after two seasons with QB ratings of 61 and 78? This fact alone may make the QB position an even greater priority heading into the draft.

well first of all feeley didnt have a ol to protect him and no rb (stud) so they knew that feeley was going to throw the ball and he still completed 61.7??? i say get a rb via trade or draft and some ol via draft maybe round 3 or 4 and you will see a different qb in feeley because mike vick could not qb this team last year and i think if we can take care of those 2 possions we will have a pro bowl qb imo

61.7 was his qb rating, not his completion percentage... and that was the lowest qb rating in the nfl last year out of qb's with enough attempts to qualify.

Some of these posts get annoying. Seems some want to run players out of town before they even get a realistic chance. Good thing they don't run the team.

Yes, it is a very good thing that the team is currently run by a new regime that won't put blinders on and ignore inadequate players simply because they were the ones that brought them here. Saban won't have the 5 year patience our previous staff had with a subpar QB.
