The QB battle in 2005 remeinds me of a battle that took place in 2000. Dan Marino just retired and the Dolphins were looking for a new starting QB. Sure we had Damon Huard, but he Dolphins went out and signed a backup named Jay Feidler. Fan favorite and Marino favorite Damon Huard struggled during the preseason to get anything done with the offense, and was later cut. Now comes 2005, again another coaching change and and new backup is signed. Now it almost looks like a repeat of 2000, the guy thats been with the team, is now struggling and almost looks to be on his way out. I know that there different situations, but it almost looks like 2000 all again.

Interesting parallels: two guys of marginal talent slugging it out, neither likely to be a realistic long-term solution, and we're all wondering "who will be next?"

Huard is/was better than Feeley. That doesn't say much though...

Well said.

I am nto sure why all of a sudden everyoen cashed out on AJ. Not that he was terrific prior to Saturday, but I did not see anything special form either Gus or AJ. Against Chicago AJ played with the first team and looked slightly better. Against Jacksonville Gus played with the first team and looked slightly better. See a common thread?

I think neither of these guys is the long term answer. I also think we have not seen anywhere near enough of either to make a decision.

If Ferotte played lights out I would understand this. But right now they look like co-MVP of the Fiedler Bowl.

In 2000 if you remember, Jay was hurt most of the training camp and only until the last preseason game did he play. Damon was given every chance to prove himself and failed. Damon was a fan favorite ( not saying AJ is or not), but the guy that should be winning the battle is struggling.

Feely does remind me of Huard a bit. Damon never looked all that comfortable in the pocket, but he made some good plays. Who could forget that NE game!?! I could make the exact same statement about AJ!

The only real difference I see is that Gus has had some quality seasons, but is no longer of the talent or age to think he may be the QB of the future. He's a viable solution for a year or two, until we find who's next. At that time, Fielder was a guy who was young enough and showed some talent to consider as a long term solution. Of course, he didn't really develop into a solid starter and is now in the Gus-type mold as a proven quality back-up.

:rofl3: :rofl3: :rofl3:

I can't wait for the day when we can look forward to a season in which our starting QB is actually good, rather than just "least worst."
