How come people aren't more excited about this guy anyway? His stats are off the charts, he won the championship game while putting up great stats and he has perfect measurables. Forgive my ignorance because I don't watch college football but how is this guy not in the discussion as the first overall pick, is he the biggest asshole on the planet or something?

And I change my mind, I would snap take him in the second.

arm strength and accuracy.
His pocket presence is far from a sure thing also since he has never played with anything less than the best line in football.

Johnny Football has a lock on that title but he's from Texas and they live in another world. AJ is a worthy nomination. However, we should focus on football ability and skills and not get too distracted by personality. McCarron is probably a decent QB for consideration as a backup QB. He is very disciplined and has been toughened by Saban.
Tannehill, Moore and Devlin apparently all get on really well. Difficult to imagine McCarron accommodating life as a backup. His ego is 10X bigger than Tannehill's.

That chemistry between Moore and Tannehill hasn't produced much, if we won 22 games I might take it into account but it clearly isn't helping and besides that Moore is getting paid way too much for what he is, which is nothing but a backup in every sense of the word.

McCarron's ego will probably work in his favor in this instance, he's got to be sitting home seething at the disrespect he's receiving and I'm sure in his mind he's going to make every GM that passes on him rue the 2014 draft.

AJ is his own hype machine....has any team said this or is MR. Bama putting this **** out there himself?

Yeah he won a ton of game, but it isn't hard when you are surrounded by numerous number 1 recruiting classes and your job is to basically leep defenses honest so the stable of runningbacks can do work.

Get the **** out of here with him being better then Tannehill...weak ass arm and folds under pressure...

My hatred of Nick Saban prevents me from liking any player from Alabama. Also, I'd rather see a guy with a deep ball like Matt Moore start than a non-playmaker like McCarron.

not just does not avoid quick pressure well the decision making under quick pressure goes in the toilet...

It's like no one watched the Oklahoma game.

McCarron was exposed, as was Saban.

what was Saban exposed as a 4 time national championship coach.
And lets not just say saban wins because of all the easy to aquire talent in Alabama because it had been 17 years since any coach won a national title there.

I'm just going off stats but if he really does choke I would have hesitations. I doubt anybody with his stats and credentials has ever gone outside of the first round and there is no way his stats are just a product of the team he had around him, it might have been a great team but he was part of it, not carried by it.

You might be right but there is also the risk of over-reacting to a very small number of bad performances. Even Johnny Football has stunk it up in some games. Unlike a number of other QBs, AJ played well enough to win many games. He represents a decent backup QB at a minimum. The game manager image is probably a product of what Saban instructed to simply improve the probability of winning games.

johnny football makes plenty of bad decisions also...forgoes his progressions when guys are wide open doesnt id the coverage well etc...you can find lots of tape of him immediately after the snap looking entirely at the wrong side of the field from where the coverage dictates it should be...leaving clean pockets etc...maybe he can overcome these things as a nfl playmaker...i don't know...i'm just glad it's not my job that's on the line if it doesnt pan out...minnesota imo what has spielman got to lose...he's getting fired if they dont find a real qb anyways...

as for mccarron there isn't a lot of instances of immediate quick pressure but when there is it's ugly

There are a lot of rumbling in the Twin Cities about how Spielman may be scared to draft a QB in the first round, even if he the highest rated player on the board, because of how Ponder turned out. Matt Cassel isn't the long term answer and I just don't see anyone outside of the 1st round being able to excel in Norv Turner's offense which is predicated on a QB with a strong arm and down field accuracy. If he doesn't take a QB in the first round he is definitely playing it safe to hold onto his job as long as possible. If that's the case he should probably be fired immediately. You can't have a GM that is scared of failing. You need one who sticks to his convictions and draft board no matter how wrong they have been in the past.

well if they are gonna stick with turners offense and what it's predicated on it probably means bortles...even though his deep ball is scattershot...i'm just not very high on bortles...think his athleticism i keep hearing about is highly overrated...since when is 4.9 a nfl athlete at qb...

they'll run him down like a stampede...

i'm just saying if i'm going out guns blazing and it's not teddy bridgewater why not see if you can clean up manziels game...spielman should have been fired already for his crappy qbs...of course if they are gonna make manziel fit them instead of try to accomodate his game it will fail anyways...gonna have to be some hands off i'd say...

Stoops made his case before the game. Don't like it? Take ut up with the man who
thinks the SEC gets to much respect.
TAMU and Mizzou had minor successes in the Big12
and have exceeded media and SEC fan boys expectations.
Saban was absolutely outcoached by Stoops, and the whole nation witnessed it.

McCarron is a disciplined QB, who was unable to adjust
to edge pressure. His HC showed no ability to scheme or adjust.

As for the Championships, it didn't matter to Oklahoma or Stoops.

Also sorry for random thoughts. On phone in traffic.
