Jay Ajayi told reporters late Thursday that he's not "overly concerned" about the chest injury that prematurely ended the best game of his rookie preseason.

Either Ajayi was putting on a brave face or has an incredible tolerance for pain.

Ajayi cracked a rib during the Dolphins' 22-17 loss to Tampa Bay Thursday -- yet another setback in a summer that hasn't gone according to plan.

Ajay missed a good chunk of training camp with a hamstring injury, but finally broke through late Thursday. He carried the ball nine times for 66 yards and also caught two passes for 37 more out of the backfield.

“I thought he ran hard,” Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said. “He made a guy or two miss, showed toughness inside, and caught the balls that were thrown to him, which is always a good place to start.”

Maybe a small blessing. Can he be put on Short Term IR? Or another designation to free up a spot and keep him on ice until he's ready and possible we are ready to make a decision about a player who has played himself off the team?

yeah, we could use the short term IR designation. to my knowledge, we haven't used that yet

Don't waste short-term IR on him.

Well we thought it might be Ajayi. The silver lining is a cracked rib is not the type of injury that screams Ajayi is an injury prone guy. Kind of the opposite. Tough dude.

The way that guy was running last night... Tough sob.

Article says maybe long term IR,dont really think it would be that bad to be a season ender and I agree with Hayden, would not use my one short term IR move yet.

you can keep him on the roster with that no problem, its about James or Gillislee anyways

I thought he may sit some or all of the season out but this is not how I envisioned it. He played his ass off last night and earned a roster spot this year, imo. It really sucks for the kid, I hope he is not injury waiting to happen in the future. It's a huge setback for him but the team will be alright without him regardless of the length of his injury.
