I decided last week when I first heard the news of Jay being left behind, to give him the benefit of the doubt without understanding the whole story. I have to say today's article in the Palm Beach Post really disappoints me and makes me question this players maturity. I was semi-excited about seeing his reckless power approach to running last preseason and disappointed in not being able to see him much after the rib injury, but let's be honest, he was less than impressed this preseason and then that fumble.
Anyway, what's pushing me this way is his lack of owning the actions that got him left behind in week one. Or at least being transparent enough so we could understand his motivation right or wrong. Personally I can't fathom a valid excuse other than, "I was immature, and reacted poorly. I've learned from my mistakes and will be a better player for."
Anything less just proves to me he learned nothing and he's a big baby. One thing this team does not need at this time. I hope I'm wrong and he becomes a productive player for years to come. If not, screw it I'll take my chances with next year's draft.
