Has there ever been any confirmation concerning the bone on bone rumors from the draft? Realistically, if Ajayi becomes a workhorse back, how many years of good production are we looking at?

If there is a short shelf life, there is realistically just a small window for the Dolphins to become true playoff contenders (3 years), which unfortunately would still include a Brady/Belichick-led Patriots team in the AFCE.

"RB are a dime a dozen" is what was thrown around here when the Dolphins let Miller walk but now Dolphins playoffs hopes hinge on a RB?

If the Dolphins want to make the playoffs...every year and not just a once in a decade type thing...stack the defense. 95% of the teams that make the playoffs regularly have defenses that rank in the upper half of the league. Teams that make the super bowl have defenses in the top 8 typically.

This is all predicated on Ajayi being an 'elite' back. If he goes back to be a middling RB it doesn't matter. But if he continues to put up Peterson-like production, then he absolutely could be a catalyst for sustained success.

Did the OP say this? Probably not.

It bothers me that people bring up things they've read on here as if it's the opinion of the entire community, and use it to dismiss someone else's opinion.

However, I agree with your assessment that good teams need a dominant defense!

I think the issue was he only has around a 5 year shelf life on that knee. We'll see there has not been anything new since that draft update

it's more about ajayis style of play than is is any "elite talent" stuff

in this offense a downhill thumper is the way to go...don't need to be a top 5 rb

ajayi has run thru more contact already than lamar miller did in 4 years in Miami

as for ajayis future lets see him stay healthy thru 2016 first...we control him for a couple more years at least...put that horse to work and let the chips fall where they may come next contract time...or if you can get him signed team friendly after this year maybe you throw him a guaranteed money bone to get a few more years extended

Unfortunately for Peterson he hasn't seen the playoffs much in his career. Not really his fault but the Vikings hadn't put a good defense on the field until last year...and now that defense is gotten better...but Peterson is injured.

I didn't say he did say it. I said it was being thrown around here when the Dolphins let Miller walk. It was more than half the board though...at least it felt that way.

When they did make the playoffs, it was Peterson driving the car, even in Favre years. Even so, they've been more competitive during his career than the Dolphins have.

Heck no! That would be setting a bad precedent and would surely tick Reshad Jones off since he's done more and been here longer and wanted a new contract before his current contract is up. No, you let Ajayi play out that rookie contract and see where he is at the end of year 4.

5th round pick im thinking he's an rfa in 2018...which right now would be a no brainer tender highest level if you didn't get an extension done prior assuming health

but again this is 2 games...we need a real body of work and of sustained game play health wise...

Jay himself said that was all b/s AFTER the draft. He has said his knees never hurt, he has no limp and frankly, couldnt run the way he does with bone on bone knees.

I have a couple bone on bone spots on my body that don't take anywhere near the pounding Jay gets and let me tell you, whenever you use them, move them, flex them, it's horrific!!

Jay also said there wasn't one time ANY doctor told him he had bone on bone anywhere on his body. I think his performances have proven him to be right.

lol...that's not saying much. Everyone's been more competitive than the Dolphins in the last decade...except for Cleveland.

Favre was a good QB for them his first year...then he showed his age the next year and they sucked and Favre retired. Can't win on running alone. A run game and an upper half defense can win....a run game with a solid passing game and a middle of the league defense can win. A solid passing game with an upper half defense can win. A crappy run game, crappy passing game and a bad defense...well we saw what that looked like last year.

Those are just your facial expressions in the mirror dude.
:chuckle:

RBs are a dime a dozen. RBs that can put up production the way Ajayi has lately, that's a different story. Was Miller a good back? Yes. Was he worth the money? Maybe. Could he put up the numbers that Ajayi has? Who knows. He certainly isn't doing it in Houston.

Ajayi is playing lately at a level we haven't seen in Miami since the early Ricky days. I'm hoping the knee concerns were overblown, and we can continue to see this same production for at least a few years
