I don't like the they released we should sign threads but this guy was with us part of last season and knows the system (Sparano really talked him up last year)
I would be some what more comfortable with him instead Andy Alleman
Alleman more than likely is not going to make this team, and neither is Al Johnson.
We are only carrying 8 to 9 OL.
Long, Smiley, Grove, Thomas, Carey are locks
Murphy seems to be a lock, considering his improvement and 4th round status from 2008. He should be the primary Guard backup.
Berger seems to be a solid guy that can play all 3 interior positions, specifically C, so with him and Murphy, u have 2 interior line backups, including C. Berger can also play tackle in a pinch.
Thats 7 guys, really no tackle depth.
Gardner looks like he may get a spot on this team, alot of praise for him, and we need a backup tackle that can play both tackle spots. A great run blocker with left tackle feet . . . I like to hear that.
Thats 8. That could be it, but if we did have one more spot, IMO I think that guy needs to be ala Max Unger like, meaning able to play all the positions on the line, specifically tackle or center. Ndukwe may not be a bad guy to keep around, as he can play G/C and RT. He probably wouldn't be active, but he has valuable starting experience from last season and his versatility is a plus.
The big hope is that Donald Thomas comes back one hundred percent, but its good having quality depth on this line, especially with DT and Smiley coming from injury, and Grove also being injury prone.
I still think it would have been nice to keep Satele as a backup versatile interior lineman, that is my opinion tho.
