1) As there is from time-to-time with high-profile hires, there was a boatload of skepticism over Dennis Hickey getting the Miami GM post. Eleven months later, hard to argue with his results. Before he was lost for the year with a knee injury sustained in Week 10, Branden Albert might have been 2014's best free-agent signing. And the picks of Ja'Wuan James and Jarvis Landry were home runs. The payoff? Fighting for his job again in '15.

I just read that too.

Good to see Hickey getting a bit of credit.

I was very skeptical when he was hired, but I loved a lot of the moves and happened to be many I was calling for…lol.

Maybe after years of getting the "Knight in Shining Armor" (see Jimmy Johnson, Nick Saban or Bill Parcells) it is actually the guy that "nobody wanted" that helps get the team on the right path.

Big offseason for Dennis and Joe.

I seem to recall that during the GM hunt, there was an article about 1 interview that they had that literally blew them away....it stood out from the other interviews by a wide margin. I can't recall who the interview was with, but this was pretty early on in the process.

It turned out that one interview was Hickey.

I would love to hear from some of the folks involved how that GM process actually worked. How much of it was the media making up stories vs. what actually took place. Hopefully one of those involved writes a book......

A lot of people here were critical of his signing b/c no one knew who he was. That's the way message boards are. I hope he continues to make good picks in 2015 b/c it's needed.

to be fair i cant fault his draft, but FA needs to be better this year

He had a decent draft, but his FA signings were abysmal. He needs to step up his game.

His FA load was solid. All the players demonstrated toughness and were always accounted for at practice. That they get hurt in a violent game is nobody's fault.

People forget the team also re-signed Grimes as a part of FA and got Starks back for less money than many thought he'd get.

I like his draft and his vision, but he needs to lay off the IR list for potential free agents

[strike]Larry[/strike] Ray Farmer: Cleveland getting heat, even from players like Dansby for underperforming, under-applied first round picks Manziel and Sean Gilbert. Does anyone think we'd have had James and Landry if this clown accepted Ross's offer. We dodged a major bullet.. just like when Coach Mediocre chose St Louis.

I have to admit that I was one who bought into the Farmer hype....good thing I'm not a decision maker for the team

top to bottom a very solid draft, the large amount of injuries from free agents is concerning, though. If Albert comes back strong, I'll feel much better. While guys like Moreno and Delmas only got 1 year deals, they paid him a ton. All in all, considering the sheer amount of positions he had to fill, Hickey did very well and I am excited to see more.

don't forget he also resigned probowler Grimes before he had a chance to hit the open market.
