The Miami Dolphins are jammed packed with important decisions that will play a crucial role in the successful of the 2017 season.

One of these critical decisions is, what to do with Left Tackle Branden Albert?

Albert has a salary cap hit in 2017 is $10.6 million with $3.4 million being dead cap money, which means if Miami does decide to part ways with Albert they would save themselves $7.2 in salary cap space.

So, does Miami want to give a player $10.6 million dollars that in all likelihood will not compete in 16 full games?
Mike Tannenbaum and the the Front Office could take the 7.2 million and get a true Guard, or maybe even kick a little more into the kitty and make a move to get Chance Warmack or Kevin Zeitler. Both are excellent players with good records of health.

I wouldn't mind giving Warmacvk a try on a cheap deal but everything I've seen and heard out of the Titans says he's been horrible and a disappointment. Why do you think he's been excellent? Not saying you're wrong, just curious.

I think depending on how Albert goes will dictate how aggressive they are on getting new lineman. The same could be said for Pouncey that he will not complete 16 games.

There are issues with both Pouncey and Albert no question, they better think it through though before we just release them, and go with the 'just replace these guys'. We all know that's sometimes easier said then done, like with the LB situation prior.

It's not like we're sitting with tons of cap space and picks, only so much will be accomplished, unless they are planning on mortgaging future picks again.

Albert returned to have a pretty good season. I don't see any reason he wouldn't play all season next year anymore than another player. A broken wrist is a freak accident. He hasn't been injury prone during his career like Pouncey. I think we just need to restructure him. He's one of the best LT's in the game and I don't see a replacement for him. We can't create a hole there.

He's sure been injury prone since we got him tho. He came back from that wrist injury to finish out the year, but he wasn't the same guy. He is a positive influence in the locker room and that's important with a young team. I say you run him out there one more year at LT with Tunsil next to him. That's a bad ass left side. Tunsil moves to LT in '18 and is there for 8-10 yrs.

I thought Albert also had an injury history when he was with the Chiefs. Or am I misremembering that?

The problem with letting Albert go is that Miami then needs two guards. Most likely one in free agency and then pretty high in the draft.

In a year where the draft is loaded on defense and the Dolphins need defense badly, I'd hang onto Albert.

Shame that Albert and even to a greater extent, Pouncey, seem to be chronically injured. It's counterproductive to pay salaries at the high end of the spectrum for oft injured players. We need to pay a stud that is young and injury free or a second tier type that is healthy to have cohesion on the line. Players need to gel and work together in the trenches to advance and moving this guy here for a few weeks then back isn't helping.I hope for the best but unfortunately I think Pouncey may have a career ending type of injury...hope i'm wrong.

I keep Albert for the simple reason that when Albert, Tunsil, Pouncey, Bushrod, and James played together this year; our o-line was mauling people. There shouldn't be a hurry to move Tunsil to LT. Of course he would be an upgrade over Albert, but there shouldn't be a rush to get rid of players on this team that not only perform well, but are true leaders.

Letting Albert go and moving Tunsil also weakens the guard position and the backup swing tackle position. If you go out and get a good starter at RG and someone to step in at LG/C AFTER next year, that really solidifies the offensive line.

He hasn't been injury prone during his career like Pouncey..

Albert has played 1 full 16 game season in 9 years missing 24 games
If that's not the definition of injury prone then what is?

As for Pouncey he's had two 16 game seasons in his 6 year career
He's missed 19 games with 11 alone this past season

That's 32 combined games missed with both players as Dolphins

There has to be a point where we stop wishing and hoping both will get healthy
and move on from these two who bring absolutely to continuity to this offensive line.

Look at Atlanta's offensive line
Chester has played 16 games 9 out of 11 seasons and has missed 7 games in 11 years...100% of offensive snaps this season
Look at Andy Levitre who HASN'T missed a game in 8 seasons...98%
Alex Mack has played 16 games in 7 out of 8 seasons...98%
Jake Matthews has missed 1 game in 3 seasons...94.1%
Schraeder has missed 6 games in 4 years...played 99.9 %

These guys are work horses who bring continuity to their offensive line
something our players do not.

It's time to move on from these players who cant stay on the field
it may not happen this season with all the other holes this team has but
make no mistake the fat lady is singing to Pouncey and Albert

He is injury prone -- lets be real. It may not always be major but he is always banged up. He faces and gets hit by incredibly powerful athletes each week for 10 years and is still up to the task. I'll take him for 1 more year even though you can't even begin to think he will be on the field for 16.

Not disagreeing, but what's the baseline? I know it isn't ZERO games missed. How many games does the average OT miss per yr and per 5yrs? It MAY BE zero, but without a baseline, I can't tell if he's injured like the average OT or injury prone. I suspect using the Falcons OL is an outlier.

Albert and Pouncey need to be replaced sooner rather than later. It's a new regime that has to overhaul a roster full of Philbin's duds, so why not rebuild the o-line now?
