Heard a great interview with Alex Marvez over here in AZ on XTRA 910AM.
Basically referred to Saban as extremely disingenuine with how he handled Wayne Huizenga. Thought Saban's thinking was similar to a Seinfeld episode in which George Costanza was convinced that if you believe a lie to be true, then it's not a lie. Marvez felt bad for Huizenga because Wayne gave Nick the keys to the franchise. He did everything he asked for and then some. He built Nick a 9 million dollar practice bubble, he flew Nick and his family to Croatia, he paid for Nick and some assistants to play golf in Ireland. In the end, the face you saw Huizenga put on in the press conference was just typical Wayne - a class act, but behind the scenes is fuming at the way Nick handled him.
What's really scary is a sound bite they have of Nick's wife Terry saying to Wayne "thank you for letting us get the h*ll out of here." Amazing how much control that woman has over the situation. Marvez thought it was amusing how brainwashed all the hicks in Alabam are now that Saban has arrived, brainwashed by a liar. Alex said the Dolphins players aren't too worried, they understand it's a business, and I got the impression that most of them didn't even like Nick. Apparently most of the front office people didn't get along with Nick and I was quite amused when Marvez quoted the building as "floating 4 feet above the ground" once Saban left hahah. It was also nice for him to be able to speak to assistants, guys like Dom Capers who has the worst hair in the NFL (his quote) instead of having to pass notes thru wives.
Marvez was pretty emphatic that the team is far worse off than when Saban arrived. Found it to be ironic that we're now older instead of younger. Saban was supposed to have been this great talent scout with all his fresh connections to the college game, was supposed to infuse youth into the organization, but apparently he wasn't capable. The only thing Marvez felt he was good for was X's and O's.
Alex commented on other aspects of the team. He emphatically stated that Daunte Culpepper will never be the QB he once was and that our QB situation is worse off. He said Daunte doesn't care enough, doesn't work hard enough, quite frankly isn't smart enough, and will never be a pocket passer. He said we have tremendous work left to do with the O-line and now we're faced with the reality that we need a No.1 reciever since Chris Chambers tanked and will never cut it. We've got to worry about what JT's going to do, since now it's being reported on his website that he wants to be an actor. I guess JT lives next to former WWE superstar The Rock and believes he could turn his sports star status into actor fame.
With coaching, they talked about Cowher, but he doesn't see it as a possibility this season because of the draft pick compensation it would take which would rob Cowher of the ability to get this team younger. Instead he mentioned it would be better to hire from within this year and go about our business for 1 season then next year go after Cowher without having to give up picks. Marvez went on to mention all the other coaching possibilities we've been hearing as well as a guy like Chan Gailey, which I personally can't believe. Marvez felt like as far as coaching vacancies go, we're the least attractive right now. The reason he felt this way was because we don't have any promising youth. He said that at least with the Cardinals you've got promising young studs at which point the 910 guys were quick to point out the ownership differences.
