Alex Smith in the last couple years...

This is sad. Smith is mediocre garbage. Period. Has it really come to this?

Smith improved last year, and so did Matt Moore. Out of the two, the ability to make plays, both downfield and red zone, Matt Moore takes the case. Just as an example, Smith only threw 6 TD's his last 7 games of last year (not including postseason). It's not that Smith is an incompetent QB, his rating was actually very good, but he's not a substantial improvement over Moore and offers no upside (like Flynn, despite my doubts, may have had) so it would be entirely foolish for this FO to try and sell him as an improvement.

I say we get a quality backup and draft a QB, even if its not with out top pick.

3 or 4 years into his career, the light comes on.

His team may be ready to pull the plug though and get another QB.

He is not happy and wants out. The Dolphins are high on his list.

>>>>>insert break here<<<<<<

Miami lowballs him, he goes to new team (not Dolphins) and reaches superstardom.

Seen this before?

At the break, rewrite history this time and make Smith OURS like we failed to do with Drew Brees.

Drew Brees had 27 and 24 TD's his last two years in SD. Comparing Smith and his 17 TD's is laughable, especially when Brees did it in his 3rd year of starting and Smith took 6 years of starting to have even average production.

Everyone seems to forget that Philbin may not like Moore as a starter in the wco. He is not very accurate. We may be looking for a starter for the next few years while we draft qbs and develop them. I actually think Moore will suck in a wco he just isn't very accurate which is what we need. Smith while not perfect has had two food years both when he had competent OCs. He is a great fit for the wco like what was run in San Fran.

Didn't smith not have a single 300 yard game this year? I have a friend who is a diehard 9ers fan and have bashed him every year for having Alex Smith as their QB and I have no idea why you guys would want him. The guy is completely incapable of producing good offensive numbers and carrying a team. Put any other mediocre QB on the 49ers and they would have had the same results this year. The guy was one of the biggest busts in NFL history before last year and even though his team made the playoffs, he really didn't contribute that much. Give your head a shake if you even slightly think signing him would be a good idea.

You must not be up on nfl history to label smith a huge bust. Maybe you should review ryan leaf, andre ware, etc etc.

and right up until last year Alex Smith was in their with them, luckily for him he landed in the perfect situation on the 49ers this year where all he had to do was throw 5 yard passes and let his defence do the rest.
