Alex Smith to visit Miami.

Any idea why Smith was sacked 44 times? Is the OL of SF weak or is Smith's fault?

does anyone knows if sf runs a est coast offense?

They do, although the style of the WCO philosophy varies from coach to coach. Andy Reid and other are pass heavy, however SF was more run heavy when Gore was healthy last season.

actually I could buy into the alex smith signing more than I could buy into Moore keeping the job. smith has improved each year he's been the full time starter, which is saying something for the guy who's had to deal with a new OC/head coach nearly every year he's been in the league. Second, looking at two stats some things really jumped out at me when compared to other guys in the same boat.... he was sacked more than any other QB, (and no, I don't watch the 49ers so I can't honestly say if he holds onto the ball too long...) which is saying something about him or the line of the 49ers. Second even though he was sacked 44 times he started every game so he's a tough sob. And finally 44 sacks yet he only fumbled the ball 7 times. by comparison matt moore was sacked 36 times and fumbled the ball 14 times, and compared to smith, matt more also tossed four more interceptions.

Another remote possibility, if the Dolphins don't get Flynn they want Tannehill and a vet, and they like Smith better than Moore.

Both Smith and Flynn would be fine at back up QB. Behind Matt Moore, we have an opening since Henne departed.

I honestly don't see Smith - or Flynn for that matter as upgrades to Moore. Moore actually has a winning record for underperforming and bad teams who won less than 37% of their games when he started. You cannot say the same about Alex Smith. As a matter of fact, he brought a basically good team down in 2010. Flynn has 2 good games for an offensive juggernaut of a system. However, one of his games where he lost was not as impressive as Moore's win vs the playoff bound Vikings in 09. As far as the comment I've seen that Moore never had a game like Flynn's against the Lions, well hell, neither has Aaron Rodgers and certainly not Stafford or Ryan! Who really has?

Anyway, I'm against Smith completely! I'd roll with Flynn if that's who our coach wants... but would prefer to see a fair TC competition and let the best performing QB win, although I'm not naive enough to think that'll happen given the assurances and money Flynn would get to come here.

Yea it's cool that we are exploring all options but it also means things aren't going according to plan. Players that other teams want dont want to play for us so now we are talking to cast aways. I still blame Ireland for everything. .....

Isn't free agency all about other teams cast aways? Peyton Manning is the Colts cast away. Just another excuse to blame something on Jeff Ireland.

Smith has a 3yr/24m offer on the table from SF. for us to even try to sign him, we'd have to offer more than that which would make him our starter. if the FO believes Flynn is better than Smith, then they would have to offer something similar to Smith's current offer, which I can not imagine Flynn would turn down. So just how badly are the 'Phins low-balling Flynn? Seems to me any offer to Flynn should be back-loaded, incentive laden for him to prove he is the "Franchise" QB we've been looking for. A contract that is easy for us to get out of early if he proves to not be that guy.

regardless, we still need to draft a guy that Sherman can groom too.

Gee, things would be a lot easier to figure out if Matt Moore wasn't so good...
