Since my boy Alex has been recently been named "the most likely 'Phins pick barring a trade-down", here's a few tidbits for those who may not have had the privledge of seeing him already:

Interviews/Reviews:

Pardon the Jets crap at the beginning and end on this one...

The good stuff:

Thanks, I hate seeing Utah fans that happy, but I liked some of those Smith clips. Nice to see is willing to throw a block

I'm still not totally sold on him, but I have to admit, he looked pretty good in those clips. That whole "always" shotgun thing is a bit odd though. I'm not going to cry if we take him, but my whole argument was not being able to see him as the superstar everyone thinks he is. We'll see, but I think I'd still have to take that trade down first. That could be an amazing deal.

Thx phinphanphrommi, I didn't know A. Smith was that good.

He looks to have a pretty lively arm to me.

Smith playing only shotgun scares me. The NFL is vary fast and he has to play under center. The real question is how many years will it take him to adjust to being under center and a NFL offense. He appears to be a 2-3 year project, can we really wait that long? I would rather stick with Feeley, we still don't know about his potential yet.

Thanks, I wanted to see some clips also because apparently it is very likely that we're going to draft him.

The one thing that bothers me about him is that in those highlights, he doesn't really throw a pass over 15-20 yards. His offense is set up to complete mid-range passes, but we have no idea what he's like on the deep balls. Also the offense he runs seems really gimmicky. Apparently it's a variation on Linehan's scheme, but I've watched many a Viking game, and it didn't look anything like that. (i.e. the hook and ladder plays)

This is a legit point. I noted the same in a different thread. I loved Smith in college and thought he should have been #2 in the Heisman voting, if not right at the top.

But, you really don't see him throw a deep ball - and, Linehan's offense is geared toward a big play game with several deep balls.

I'm sure that Saban and Co. ran him through several deep passes. I believe I recall reading about his workout that he threw all the passes well.
