I don't have a very good feeling about this kid. I think he will be a bust in the NFL. I don't think he had the proper coaching schemes to develope him into an NFL starter. And the fact that I think with the history the last few years the second quarterback taken hasn't panned out well. Ryan Leaf, Akilli Smith, exc. I don't think Rodgers will be great either but I would feel better about Saban taking Rodgers if the 9ers trade with the Chargers.

i'm not sold on either qb.

imo, both of these guys are the 2 qb to leinart..

we all agree on that one Leinart is one of the best I've seen in recent years IMO

I totally agree with you. Personally I don't think Alex Smith is worth all the hype. He wasn't even touted as 1st round pick until after he played his Bowl game, and now all of a sudden he's got a chance to go 1st overall? I don't get it.

I'm also not much of a Rodgers fan either. What I've seen of him (which wasn't too much albeit) hasn't shown me that he's a franchise QB. I really can't expound much on that since it's just a gut feeling I have. I think he will be decent but I just don't see him as a franchise QB.

4u2- man, marino looks hella cool in that pic

doesnt anyone else wish we still had that old green color? why is it gay and shiney now?

Do u guys think Saban is falling in love with him or is he just creating a smoke screen. I mean I think he started out going after him because he wanted other people to think he was interested but now with all this talk of them communicating on aregular basis do u think he is in love with him.

i honestly think there isnt any way we're touching either qb..

reason being, there is a much bigger need at RB, and i could possible see saban looking at an impact guy like braylon edwards. If matt leinart was sitting pretty for the dolphins, it's a completely different story..

but i don't think anyone with any true knowledge thinks smith/rodgers is at the level of a carson palmer, leinart, carr, eli manning, phil rivers.

I still like the green jerseys we have now but I just wish we would wear them more often. I find the whites kinda boring and the orange doesn't do anything for me.

He displayed some of what will be required at the pro level during his workout. By most accounts he was impressive.

BTW, Donovan McNabb was the second pick not Akili Smith. So in that case, if Smith turned out to be like McNabb, I'd be more than pleased.

pool boy, he meant second qb. not overall pick.

oh wait, tim couch went first didn't he? it makes no difference of who was picked where, just can you pan out who the good ones are and who the weak ones are

The more I mull over the multitude of posts about who we WILL pick and why, the more I am settling into the thought process of it not being a RB. Reading all the different things that have been written about Saban and his preferences (and hunger for picks) I think we will take anything but a RB with the first pick (assuming we don't trade down). There is just too much depth in this year's draft at RB to sink the second overall pick on the position IMO.

Alex Smith is one of if not the smartest QB in the draft, however. Schemes will not be a problem for him.

Does he have the physical tools to dominate, that's my one question about him. Being smart doesn't get you everything in the NFL, ask Joey Harrington. But one thing Smith has shown in spades that Harrington has never really shown, is leadership skills...the ability to lead a team and have teammates believe in him. Akili Smith was also smart, and had a really strong arm, but lacked that leadership and accuracy.

Good points. Still, the bottom line is that there is no one in the draft that we can call a "lock" outside of maybe the top 2 or3 WRs because the same can be said for all the skil positions. The NFL is a whole different game than college. Every draftee is a gamble.
