All-Decade Defense

It's funny but if I were to come up with an All Decade Dolphins defense it would look basically like a snapshot from the early 2000's.

Pat Surtain and Sam Madison
Brock Marion and Brian Walker
Zach Thomas, Junior Seau and Joey Porter
Jason Taylor and Adewale Ogunleye
Tim Bowens and Daryl Gardener

I suppose Porter's a tougher question, because he's a 3-4 OLB. But, I'd put him there anyway...instead of a Robert Jones, Donnie Spragan or Morlon Greenwood. You would have to give some thought to Yeremiah Bell over Brian Walker but Walker was excellent at producing the one thing Yeremiah Bell is terrible at, interceptions.

I'd go Bell over Walker. Walker had 1 good year (this decade).

Give me Crowder over Seau. Seau was hurt too much.

Daryl Gardener is a tough call....only 2 seasons this decade, only 18 games total. Keith Traylor maybe? tough call.

Bell has really only had 1.5 good years, if you think about it. And that good year for Walker was a Pro Bowl year where he picked off 8 passes. Bell has only picked off 1 pass in all his time as a Dolphin.

Seau had about 1.5 good years with us as well (which is more than Crowder) and he had no health issues when he played for New England, I don't think.

I'd take the one season with Daryl Gardener over two seasons with Keith Traylor.

Bell has only one good year and Walker made more plays in the passing game.

At this point you're probably right....but if Bell plays close to how he did last year (Pro Bowl level w/o the recognition) it's his spot.

Seau was no better while he was here than Crowder has been. Solid, but unspectacular. Not sure what Seau did in NE has to do with the list you put together.....

Gardener/Traylor....I probably would too. Was trying to come up with anyone who you could give the nod to over someone who played 1 year.

Bell made a lot more plays in the running game....and although he doesn't have the INT's, he has a good number of passes defensed (23) and forced fumbles (6) over his last 2 full years.

Seau averaged 6.66 tackles, 0.17 passes defensed and 0.13 sacks per game. Crowder's averaged 6.53 tackles, 0.24 passes defensed and 0.03 sacks per game. I gave the nod to Seau. I thought he was really pretty good in 2003 and for half of 2004. I think Crowder as as good this year, but this is the only year I've thought so...and Seau showed the ability to play well at an OLB spot. Crowder's only year playing well was at MLB and that's a spot we know would be occupied by Zach.
