Here I collected and annotated every IZR-option run play the Dolphins ran last Sunday. The Fins ran a TON of plays out of the spread, IZR look. However, only a few of them were really read option runs. We didn't see much of these because the Patriots were putting a whooping on us until the 2nd half when our defense came alive. Once we were ahead, we saw a lot of smart, clock-eating, yardage-gaining rushes out of the IZR. Most of the plays were really power runs disguised as IZR, though. We did run option a couple times to mix it up. However, that doesn't mean we ran it right. In fact, there were a lot of mistakes made. That's why I made this video:

Tannehill had a really bad day. I like to think of the IZRO as play action for the running game. We set it up beautifully, but failed to make some HUGE gains on this collection of plays. If Tannehill can learn how to make better adjustments to exploit the reads, Lazor's IZR rushing attack is going to really explode. Blocking up front was solid, but there were times when guys would be looking around or looking behind them instead of moving on to the next block. As the season goes on, I think they'll become really good.

Thank goodness for our defense's and for Knowshon Moreno's monster day. It's amazing that Bill Lazor's playbook had our team doing as well as they did last week. I'm really excited about this offense and the potential it has if the players can execute it correctly. I'm on the Lazorade.

Nevermind. Tannehill sucks and will never get the concept. Not looking good for this Bills game. Let me know if you guys want me to do this again.

edit: Haha. Just as I posted that, he keeps it for a nice first down. That's the first time he's done that.

They didn't let the end come free...who they would be reading. Based on that, I think they were more of just inside zone plays than read options. It is also pretty clear that Tannehill had no intention of handing the ball off. He just runs to the side of where the free end would be, but they are really no even very good efforts. If this is our idea of the zone read, they need to just remove it from the playbook...or we'll have more like the one on 4th down where Tannehill was absolutely nailed for a loss. Pretty pathetic...

Don't feel too bad...shortly after that he failed miserably on 4th and short...

That's the thing. They ran lots of IZR looks, but these were the few plays that they actually let someone come free. Either a DT or a DE, or an OLB.

I'm not sure I'm gonna do one for this week. It was just so bad. If you can't block 'em, read 'em. If you can't read 'em, you're gonna have a bad time.

So the NFL blocked my video. I guess commentary doesn't fall under fair use to them. That said, I'm not gonna get involved to dispute it or anything. I just won't do it going forward.
