All you guys who think its all about the Franchise QB

I want a franchise QB and it is important. I just dont want to give up multiple 1st rounders for one in the draft. I also feel coach is more important theres a reason its called the Lombardi trophy.

Or maybe because Lombardi is the best coach to ever be. Not to mention that the game is totally different than back in his day.

While the NFL is not a one man game, the last few Superbowl winners have been...

Packers - Rodgers
Saints - Brees
Giants - E. Manning
Steelers - Roethlisberger
Colts - P. Manning
Patriots - Brady
Patriots - Brady

Those are the winners ever since the NFL told the referees to look more closely for pass interference.

Just sayin.

It's not all about the Franchise QB...but it doesn't hurt to have one. Of course, a competent coach helps too. Hopefully we find both of those this offseason.

Do I have to be the guy that points out the fact that Alex Smith was picked first overall?

A good QB is necessary but not sufficient for a title.

Necessary: without one you're going nowhere.

But not sufficient: other pieces of the puzzle are needed as well.

That phrase makes it all real simple.

By then it will be too late
No....It's about the Tight Ends. The game is in favor of more scoring and tight ends are in vogue.

Miami will probably figure it out in about 3 years.

Anyone who thinks its not about the QB's does not undertand the game.

Is there more involved? Of course..........can sometimes other aspects of the game dominate or seem to be more important?...yes...its called any given sunday.

NFL history shows the single most important aspect of winning championships is high quality quarterbacking, its not everything, but it is the most important position on a football team.

Only a few times in history have average quarterbacks won championships and it has always been because those teams had some of the top ranked defenses in history(Bucs, Ravens).

And oh by the way....Alex Smith was the number 1 overall pick. And.....of the final 8 teams...5 of the starting QB's were 1st rounders, and 1 should have been had Wannstedt not screwed the Dolphin pick up and drafted Jamar Fletcher. So Brees barely fell into round 2.

So OP...your argument is that 11 players on defense have roughly the value of one great QB. Compelling argument against franchise QBs if I do say so myself.

its about fielding a good team.

enough with "its tight ends" "no its qb"

different teams are winning with different philosophies. people need to stop just finding what we are missing and attributing that position to the SUPER BOWL. by that logic, we really do need a RT.

get a coach that has a vision and utilizes the pieces around him with the help of solid assistants. click on all cylinders and maybe you have a shot. Smith winning with a solid defense, and if flacco wins today proves you can win with an average QB if you have a good team.

joe flacco is not an average qb...i will argue that point til the damn cows come home...this season against top 10 defenses he's 9-2...soon to be 10-2 after they take care of the texans...how many average qbs have that kind of win percentages against legit defenses???

nothing average about joe flacco...i wish we had him
