Allen Iverson returns to Philadelphia

Being from Philly, I loved watching this guy play. He was a head case sometimes, but he gave you everything he had all the time. It was nice to see Philadelphia welcome him back with open arms.

...and for some reason I can't find it. here are some highlights for now.

The Sixers will always be my favorite NBA team but I am happy he is here in Colorado with the Nuggets. That was very classy the ovation the Philly fans gave A.I. Too many people think Philly has the worst fans, but they don't...they just care more than other cities. That was a nice game to watch.

I love AI. My favorite player in the NBA and forever will be. Gotta love his game. Yeah I was really surprised in Philadelphia's ovation, this is the city that booed Santa on Christmas LOL! I am glad he got that ovation, he deserved it.

I just hope he can win that ring that he deserves, whether it being in Denver or anywhere else.

A.I. is who I try to model my game after. A.I. and D Wade actually, both play with reckless abandon and sacrafice everything for the team.

as a side note, the sixers are a team that other east teams need to be careful of...

they are 16-4 in their past 20 games... including wins @Detroit, Spurs, Dallas, Magic, @Phoenix, Nuggets, etc... they have crept up to a .500 record after being at one point 18-30... they are a half game out of the 6th seed and 1 game out of the 5th seed in the playoffs... though id rather they get the 6th seed and face the Magic first round instead of the 5th seed and have to play the Lebron's...

Andre Miller has really stepped up his play lately... as has Sam Dalembert, hes becoming more consistent on the boards and with his defense... Iggy is just a beast and continues to improve his outside shot which just makes him that much harder to defend... Willie Green (who i generally dislike) has even been playing better... with the rookie Thaddeus Young providing LOTS of hustle and heart that once he was put in the starting lineup has helped the turn around of this team...

our halfcourt offense is still shaky especially when Iggy is on the bench... but they play good defense and are great in transition... watch out east, the sixers are coming!

Michael Irvin would argue to the contrary.

Yeah but Michael Irvin was a classless punk. Not just a hated Cowboy who got away with offensive pass interference on seemingly every catch, but a drug addict, a womanizer and a big mouth jerk who people in every city i'm sure hated.

This city loved Iverson, and still does. Like any long term situation we had our ups and downs with him. His taking us to the finals being the peak, and his antics off the court being the low. I dont think you'll find many fans who necessarily "hate" Iverson but you'll find realists like myself who loved to watch him while he was here, lost some of that love when Iverson displayed some of his negative character traits, but overall realized that this team really wasn't going to contend with him playing for us anymore. Really had nowhere to go but down, couldn't get any better. He took up too much cap space, and slowed the development of young players on our team. So they traded him, got value for him, got Andre Miller who as a complete NBA PG has made this team solid again. Got a draft pick from Denver which led to Thadeus Young, who at 19 years of age has been a very very solid player for this team.

They're 500., they're hot as ever, they've beaten some good teams. It's nice to see the resurgence, but they still have a long way to go. Luckily they will have a lot of cap space this summer to make this team into a legitimate contender in the east.

got to give props to the 6ers for their run. Though as someone who lives in the market and makes an effort to follow the team a bit, I'd e lying if I said I was shocked they've played so much better without AI and CWebb (and Korver).

The team is still very young. AI needed the ball in his hands all the time, kind of the same for CWebb. It's hard for young players to come into the league and change their gameplay so extensively. Coming to Philly, guys would have to become spot up shooters to compliment AI dribbling out most of the clock. Iggy is not a spot up shooter, Green is not a spot up shooter, Carney is not either. The only guy who was and played with AI was Korver. Andre Miller is the perfect player for a young 6ers team; a PG that can score double digits, but is a very good distributor.

This is not ment to be a knock on AI, just stating that it was time for a change not just for him, but for the team.

Exactly, and there are still many people here who fail to realize that. People who villainize Philadelphia fans for "running another superstar out of the city". People who claim that Iverson was "hated on" and made a scape goat and thats why he was traded.

AI asked to be traded...

Attendance had slipped, the team was losing, it was clear that the "Answer" era was over. It was time to move on, and the Sixers are a better team for it.
