If he can stay on the field. He hasn't shown the ability to do that yet. Memories of Rob Konrad.

If he earns a probowl bid this defense will be a night and day difference from last year...and the team will potentially be playoff bound.

Alonso played all 16 games as a rookie and sat out his entire second season with an injury. Last year was a down year, but considering he was coming off being out a year and he was learning a new system ( and at times being asked to play outside instead of inside linebacker), it shouldn't have been a big surprise that he struggled some. I think there's a better chance he's closer to his rookie form than the Alonso that played last season. Plus playing middle linebacker behind Suh and Phillips would leave Alonso free, with the guards and center having their hands full dealing with the defensive tackles.

Too early to tell of course but this guy definitely has shown that he has the smarts to do it, all he needs to do now is make sure that his physical is on par. Without playing a down for us, he is the best LB we have had since Zach Thomas, hands down... which is sad.

Phillips better take a HUGE step forward because last season his run defense was the second worst
on the team only Earl Mitchell was worse

Hey, dude, I'm not up on board etiquette, so if I'm outta line, let me know. I've been a PFF member for quite a few years and this year the stats are close to nonexistent compared to previous years. I see your screenshot looks like the 'real' PFF page. How'd you do that?

Phillips was a rookie so I can cut him some slack. How the hell do you explain Earl Mitchell? Also, not sure how those numbers were calculated for O.V. nothing seems right there.

Most of the wide runs were to his side where I routinely saw him not set the edge and got driven back or out of the play completely. On pass rushing he flashed every once in a blue moon.

I know that I was excited to get Kiko.

Yet, at the time I was pissed that I felt we traded out of the range to get Hargreaves ... but that worked out too. :chuckle:

Its all about him staying healthy. We haven't had an athlete and playmaker at LB like Alonso in quite some time. But he needs to stay healthy and hopefully he will.
