I absolutely hate the thought of going into the season with Seth "Sweaty Palms" McKinney as our starting Center. He has never impressed me into thinking he was anything more than a backup guard (at best),and after he tested the FA market (unsuccessfully) low-and-behold he is our projected starting Center this season. Are there any good centers left that didn't get drafted or will be availible after the June 1st cuts that we could pick up and start RIGHT NOW? Rex Hadnot starting at center this year doesn't exactly wave my flag either. He is above average playing guard but an unknown at center in the NFL. He belongs at guard, IMO, and we have a glaring weakness staring at us squarely in the eyes at Center. Do we need some change there or can we win our division with Seth/Rex playing center?

the center position is simply just not that big of a deal. Sure, if you've got a great center, then more power to ya, but its generally the last spot on the line to worry about

Naww Im not concerned...we have Seth ( who has improved greatly), Wade Smith and Hadnot. Oh and we got Coach Houck....who could turn the waterboy into a Offensive Tackle. (Lowest Sacks allowed)

Considering the way our offensive line played last year, and the way they ranked (4th in sacks, meaning they kept Frerotte on his feet, while also yielding a pair of backs that went for 1,650 yards combined), I'd definetely say you're over reacting. That's like being dissatisfied with winning a $64 million lottery payoff because it wasn't $82 million. Seriously, we were good last year!

Seth Mckinney will not be the starting center come opening day.

not to worry bro, remember how we all were freaking out last year at this time? oh my Gawd, we are going to start the same losers...only Hud got them to make it work. Now, it cost us, we had to scheme some to make it work, but really, i just can't get worked up. We have better talent and a year of Hud for the rest of them, I think we will be ok. Not world class, but ok. We addressed the left tackle, end and fullback and it isn't over, there will be some guys out there for us to look at.

I was thinking that by us letting Seth McKinney test the FA market (that was consideribly thin at the Center position) and he could not even land an offer to start for another team we may have a problematic situation on our hands if we do not determine quickly who our starting Center (signal caller) will be.

I totally disagree. The Center position is one of the hardest positions in football...you have to know which blocking schemes to run, block against the run and the pass, get out on screen passes, you are pretty much the QB of the O-line. The only position where you probably have to know more information is the QB position.

Really wish we'd bring in Mike Degory

I wouldnt go that far. The center is going to be responsible to call the protection adjustments before the snap depending on how the D is alligned. If he cant call the right protection or calls for to much help because he is constantly allowing a strong push up the middle the QB will have to dump to many balls off to compensate wasting offensive plays. I do not disregard the importance. However I am not that concerned because we have a couple of back up plans if he does not work out. I would say RG is the last spot to fill.

McKinney improved dramatically in his one year under Houck. And Hadnot played quite well at C during McKinney's injury. I think we're ok.

All I can say is after watching Cruddy Tim Ruddy after all those years . He was a guy who I also thought was terrible . But he did get better as the years went on.

And I think this is an area where the genious Houck can possibly help. If he is as good a teacher with lineman as many say. I think you are jumping the gun. I mean cmon if the situation is that bad then you would have thought that Saban would have addressed that area by now.

I sure miss Dwight Stephenson. :shakeno:

Just being in year two under Houck is going to make everybody on the o-line better(even Seth). No worries

THANK YOU!!!! Seth is a backup. Rex will start at center, Cary at RG. Either D Mac or Pearman will start at RT. LJ will start at LT and James at LG.
