i was just thinking about how much stronger our team could be next year.
defense
if wake is nearly as good as we hope.
if porter continues to produce.
and if we get a big nose tackle.
that should definitely make things easier on our safeties and corners. with 3 guys like that rushing in and collapsing the pocket, pass plays should get broken up quickly or completed quickly, for short gains.
then we have all the commotion on here about upgrading our inside linebackers. that should make things more stifling for short passes and runs as well.
offense
combine that with returning some starters back to the offensive line. maybe even getting a stronger center. that should bring our running backs, back into the game.
then, if possible, our receivers get better, or even if we bring in a big production receiver.
and we always have the ability to bring henne in, if need be, for deep passing. but with penningtons accuracy and more potential around him, i dont see it as a need yet. but atleast we have that option avaible if it were to come to that.
special teams
wake is known for blocking a considerable amount of kicks.
our specials teams definitely improved over the past season, from start to finish.
carpenter is gold on field goals.
our punts and kickoffs went deeper towards the end of the year and we started to stop the return shorter, as well.
and patrick cobbs seems to be the most consistent kick return man, as far as yards/return.
am i crazy or does it already sound like we are much more competitive next year before we even make any draft picks, or f/a signings.
