i was just thinking about how much stronger our team could be next year.

defense
if wake is nearly as good as we hope.
if porter continues to produce.
and if we get a big nose tackle.

that should definitely make things easier on our safeties and corners. with 3 guys like that rushing in and collapsing the pocket, pass plays should get broken up quickly or completed quickly, for short gains.

then we have all the commotion on here about upgrading our inside linebackers. that should make things more stifling for short passes and runs as well.

offense
combine that with returning some starters back to the offensive line. maybe even getting a stronger center. that should bring our running backs, back into the game.

then, if possible, our receivers get better, or even if we bring in a big production receiver.
and we always have the ability to bring henne in, if need be, for deep passing. but with penningtons accuracy and more potential around him, i dont see it as a need yet. but atleast we have that option avaible if it were to come to that.

special teams
wake is known for blocking a considerable amount of kicks.
our specials teams definitely improved over the past season, from start to finish.
carpenter is gold on field goals.
our punts and kickoffs went deeper towards the end of the year and we started to stop the return shorter, as well.
and patrick cobbs seems to be the most consistent kick return man, as far as yards/return.

am i crazy or does it already sound like we are much more competitive next year before we even make any draft picks, or f/a signings.

im not one of the MANY people on here saying, "the steelers had the toughest schedule and look at them."

im saying that things are looking UP. and thats AFTER a spectacular turn around season.

Your crazy like a fox lol.

I don't think it's out of the relm of possibility to think the team will have just as good or better win total than this year. I also don't think the opposite is beyond question. There are arguements for both results. If the chips fall right, we could have a VERY competetive team next year. Even worst case, I don't see us below .500 next year.

Crazy?.......Hell no your not. The current Fins are pumped about next year. Most can't wait to hit the weight room, they know BP is watching. If wake is as good as advertised and they pump up the weak spots on defense.....13-3

i may be crazy myself, but the fins are going 5-1 in the divison next yr!!!!

You're not crazy, I only problem I have with crowder is blitzing and backfield stops, he's good once a runner pass the line of scrimage.. and I'd like a few more int's from him, but it was his first full year at ILB, so I'll give him a grow factor and I think we should bring him back, if nothing else, if we find a monster ILB, then he can go back to OLB as he's fast enough and tough enough for that.

I'm not sure it's stalele or weak guard play, didn't get enough of thomas to know, smiley seem good, but overall running wasn't consistent. Either way, if Stalele starts or backs up, depth just got better. I think Carey is a must, if nothing else, he's the only other person I trust at LT if Long goes down.

I would like one shut down cb.. even if the rest of the guys remain the same..I think that adds to the D. So on D. blitzers..and shut down CB would be nice. On O..strong middle to get running game going.. the recievers are fine to me...especially for what we do in the passing game..unless a bolin type reciever becomes available..YAC is where it's at.
