I watched every game last year and my opinion on Bess was that he was a valuable member of our team. A small cog in the machine. Not bad for an undrafted player ect. His story is truly touching and every time a player that gets looked over during the pre draft, draft, and post hype you truly root for their success. However, his rookie year was no more amazing than an above average role player, he was no Colston, ect.
So my question is, what am I missing? A lot of people on this board seem to have extremely high hopes for him. Or should I say expectations because we should have high hopes for all our fins. I just don't see Bess in the same high regard as most and I wonder if I missed something, other than Bess is a great story and so far a great guy.

His body control is utterly amazing and the way he catches the ball it looks like an art.

who else will step up other than bess??

GINN!?!

He has some of the best hands I have seen.
He runs routes very well. Has great body control.
Knows how to find space.
Fights for the extra yards.

I don't think anyone thinks he is going to be an elite NFL receiver (By elite I mean Top 10), but seems to have the same attributes of a Welker.

I think bess is going to have to push hard to keep his role because we have some talented prospects. Will be very intresting to watch.

He's a natural receiver because he's very experienced. Other guys have trouble stringing together all of the technique they need to get open, and having time to think ahead about where the defense is and what he will have to do to avoid them, while still catching the ball.

He does that well because he has very good natural hands, so he doesn't have to focus hard on catching the ball, he is a quick thinker, and he has so much experience at the college level that running routes and catching passes is very easy for him.

Is there anything superb about him? I'm not sure there is. At least, not physically. In the second half of the year I started to see some extremely fast thought from him. His mind was faster than the action on the field. I remember that was what stood out to me most about Wes Welker...he was the Zach Thomas of offense. He just thought at a different speed. Bess started to do that some. He's a little more athletic than Welker, can make a few more athletic catches.

He is a guy that will have to follow the mold of someone like a Hines Ward or Wes Welker. He has to think faster than everyone on the field, use his compact frame, quick stride, and fluid technique as weapons. One thing he does very well, as good as I've seen a Dolphins receiver since I've been watching, is block well. He really gets after it with that fiesty, compact frame of his. That's something Hines Ward does very well.

I don't think anyone ever said he's a Marques Colston. Even with all of the Wes Welker love out there, nobody is confusing Wes for Randy Moss or one of those types. I don't think anyone has ever confused Hines Ward for a Terrell Owens.

But I think he will be a starting quality player that could catch for 1,000+ yards and we will be glad to have him. Even as a rookie, for the 33 quarters that he was a starter level receiver in place of Greg Camarillo, he was on pace for nearly 1,000 yards.

Remember O.J. McDuffie?

Man, in 2007 you couldn't get Dolphins players to cop to their own identity off the field. Now everyone's trying to steal their identities.

Bess will one day grab 100+ balls and have 1200+ yds..and the same year Ginn will have 90+ 1300+..there the next big things in the NFL WR position..

If Bess can be a better Wes Welker, he will be an incredible asset for the Fins. I think that is a very realistic possibility. He will always need other receivers to clear him out space, but he will make the catch, the block, and some YACs.

If this happens it means Chad Henne is Dan Marino 2.0

I think Carpenter still had the better year as an undrafted rookie, but not by much. Anyway, Bess is still a great find; he has natural talent as a receiver, he runs great routes, has great hands, is tough and has a great attitude. I'm hoping he'll be a Dolphin for a long time.
