Am I the only one who thinks that Saban denieing access to our assistant coaches is going to be a bad thing? I know what your thinking that you want the best coaches possible, but think about it. Saban is stopping the coaches from advancing there carreers, and when there contract is up they are gone if there is no promotion here. that is where i see this being a problem. when we need to start replacing these assistant coaches. i don't see any young up and comming coaches wanting to come here nowing if they do well and another team offers them a better job they will not be allowed to leave. That is why other teams allow there assistant coaches to interview for better jobs. Anyone else have any thoughts about this?

Not true, both situations it was for a lateral move. Baggett was gonna be hired as the wr coach, and garrett was gonna be hired as the qb coach.

Who says Baggett or Garrett would have gotten promotions?

He is not preventing any promotions. He is stopping them from swapping teams at the same coaching position. He said "Why would I let my QB coach go coach QB's for the Saints?" "that would be stupid"

I agree with him

And maybe Saban see good chances for promotions here by contract's end for these guys. I'm sure he weighs a lot of things before denying access. He granted access to Linehan, so it's not just a blanket policy. I think it's a fairly common practice around the league, isn't it?

Saban could also be grooming them for a coordinator or assistant type position esp Garrett) in the near future.

Also I think it's an NFL rule either written or unwritten that you can only deny access to coaches for a non-promotion (ie: lateral moves, or downward moves).

He also allowed the Texans access to Smith, so he has blocked two and allowed two to leave.

That's Because Capers was Hired. Huge Upgrade from Smith. Baggett though is better than any WR coach available. and with his knowledge of Linehans system i'd be willing to bet that he would have made him an OC.

I agree that Capers allowed the departure of Smith but the Nictator still had to allow him to leave he could have kept him on in a lesser role.

Im pretty sure your right. I'm not sure about positional jobs, but i know for coordinators they must be given permission. Either way our coaching staff is extremely well paid, so they shouldn't be complaining either way. Hudson Houck is making more than alot of coordinators out there.
