Am I the only one who still doesn't have a feel for how good or bad we are? I mean I am elated to be 9-5 after the last 6 year nightmare! However, this team is really hard to get a read on. We have been dominate and we have been horrible. We have had a pretty easy schedule, but what game is easy in the NFL. I go into every game expecting a victory, but I do that every game, but part of me still wonders which D will show up and will we score enough points. It is crazy because by this point in the season I usually have a good feel for the team. I mean I know we are a play mistake free with good D, that is our ID. It is just weird because I feel anything can happen with this team good or bad. Any body feeling me?

I'm with you dude. I have no idea how to accurately gauge this team.

Same here but i tell you one thing it is something to be able to win ANY GAME in the NFL let alone 9 already.

One thing I do know at this point is that we have only turned the ball over ten times all season.

Plus the last three games we haven't given up a TD.

Extremely impressive!

This young team is searching for an identity and so far I think it is starting to come to form.

I totally expected the ups and downs. More downs than ups but everything has been positive as hell. I didn't expect this but no one did.

Just roll with it. Really good times are on the horizon

I think we are good at finding ways to win games against bad teams.

We are good enough defensively against below average teams.

We run the ball good enough, play good enough defense, and dont turn the ball over.......these 3 things are very good.

But I am already trying to hold expectations back for the end of this season and especially next season.

If we get into the playoffs, as I think we will, or even if we dont, this season is a HUGE success. And we are only going to get better in the next few years will Bill P leading the show.

But with that said, I am trying to hold my expectations in check going into next season for sure. Our schedule has been SO easy, matched up against the worst division in football. Next season, Im not sure which division we will be matched up against. But I worry about having a BETTER team next season (which I figure is a given, after Bill has anothe ryear of free agents / the draft)....but with that better team, I think we could win FEWER games.

I still feel like we are 1-2 years away from really being a playoff team.

But with that said, how much fun are these next 2 weeks going to be as dolphins fans? What about a home playoff game against the Ravens?

Then a trip to Pittsburg? Im down. Oops....gotta hold those expectations....haha

It's so hard to get a good gauge of our team because we have turned the ball over less than any team in history. If we were even like 10th best in turnovers we would probably be 7-7 or something like that.

We lack talent. Drafts will fix that. What we have accomplished is a group of guys who have and are learning sound fundamentals. That is all we can do until we bring in more talent.

I am with you and have been that way all season. My friends have beat me down since the 1-15 season and now that has slowed for the time being. I haven't started talking up the Fins yet because we are hit or miss (one game at a time).

I feel we play up to our competition because we never score high, but in the Pats game we scored like it was nothing.

We are playing well disciplined "basic" football. This week we have to get back to controlling the clock though and now we get to test the team in the colder weather.

I will try to break it down for you if I may..........

1) We have a very intelligent, accurate, QB who moves pretty well in the pocket. He rarely turns the ball over and is an excellent leader. He throws VERY WELL in between the hashes and short to intermediate even to the outsides. He can attack the middle of the field very well, even deep. His passes are crisp and accurate, usually allowing the receivers a nice opportunity to make a play after the catch. He is the key to the teams overall success.

2) OL - Very average to good. This is the hardest group to get a read on. Run blocking wise, they seem ok at times, and at times seem to struggle. The average gain per carry, just guessing Id say its decent. This is tough to read though because of the way the defenses will play against us considering our QBs skill set.

Pass blocking they seem to be average to good as well. But, again, our QB does very well moving around back there, so its not as if they are blocking for a QB who dosent know how to manuver within the pocket and outside the pocket. I would guess we dont give up alot of sacks, but we do some. The QB dosent seem to face a ton of pressure though. Again, when he does, he is capable of doing what good QBs do, and make a play despite it.

3) RBs -- We have a solid backfield. The FB acquired earlier in the season seems to do a good job blocking, and definately has been good in short yardage. The RBs are as fine as any roster in the league. 3 guys who can make plays when given the opportunity.

4) WRs -- A very underrated group. No true standout, must double cover guy, but some nice role players. The loss of Camarillo hurts the depth of this group though. While Bess has taken his role nicely, and has equalled or bettered that production, the depth behind him dosent equal up to what Bess brought to the #3 spot.

5) TEs -- Great unit. Very underrated. A great pass catcher in Martin and a nice combination skill guy in Fasano. Above or a little better than average in both blocking and catching for Fasano.

6) DL -- A nice mix of youth and experience. Decent group. Above average big guy in the middle who is the nucleus of the D. Ferguson is paramount to our success with his run stuffing ability. Holiday is a nice veteran player as well. Langford has been outstanding for a rookie and Starks is underrated and does a nice job as well. The rest of the depth is marginal but young.

7) LBs -- An outstanding pass rusher in Porter. An average to good ILBing pair with Akin and Channing. Roth leaves something to be desired in most games. He is marginal at best but, could be a solid backup when the position is upgraded. Depth wise they arent great, but Torbor has experience and Anderson has been rushing the passer a little better on 3rd downs lately.

8) DB -- Another very underrated group. Will Allen is EXCEPTIONAL. One of the leagues finest. Excellent in run support and above average in coverage. Can cover quick slot men in 3wr sets. Goodman is underrated. Very acceptable #2. Would be a great #3, but a pretty solid starter. The depth for this group however needs a serious upgrade as we lack any real talent at CB behind these 2.

At safety Bell is a very good player. Hill is decent and would make a solid backup, but is an adequate starter at best. Culver has played fairly well in his role. An upgrade at safety would be nice, with Hill and Culver backing things up.

Special teams - Good punter, decent kicker. Needs to improve his kickoffs. The coverage has played better since being pretty bad for a large part of the season.

So Id say we are pretty good. We obviously have some areas to address still, and must solidify the depth in alot of areas. We arent the best team in the league, but we certainly arent the worst. We are capable of beating anyone, and there are plenty of teams it would be very tough for them to beat us. We play too smart and dont give bad teams much of a chance. Bad teams need you to make mistakes for them to beat you.

Unlike most who seem to think WR and DB are our biggest needs. I still believe we have work to do on the OL, and front 7 on D. We will again look to upgrade these positions. Plus we have some solid players like Ferguson who we must be looking to replace soon due to age.

I dont think we need DB as badly as most. Depth in those areas for sure, but there are starting positions in the front 7 and OL that need taken care of first before we are better than the top teams in the league.

However, this dosent mean we arent capable of beating those teams now. And if we get in the playoffs, we certainly have a shot to win against any team we may face and go as far as any team can.

I remember the Steelers in 2005 sitting at 7-5 and trying to find a way into the playoffs. The Cincinnati Bengals had wrapped up the AFC North, and Pittsburgh just found itself on a host streak and went on the road all the way to the Super Bowl.

Miami's getting hot at the right time; WV did a nice job breaking down the team, pretty much spot on how I view the guys at each position, though I still think at least one DB will be had on the first day of the draft if we stand pat in free agency.

The only thing that worries me, is I don't really see that top-notch win. The only very talented team in the AFC we lost to, IMO is Baltimore, but a pick-6 and the combination of Jason Ferguson getting injured while Paul Soliai was suspended could've changed that outcome.

We haven't played a Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Indianapolis, Giants, Panthers, etc. caliber of team yet. One week the Patriots are hot, the next week they aren't, and that can pretty much be said of the Cardinals, Jets, Chargers, and Broncos, probably the toughest part of our schedule who we're 3-3 against.

But, like Pittsburgh in 2005, or the Giants last year; if you make the playoffs, it's a crapshoot, anything can happen.

Relatively good breakdown WV, but our DB's are pretty bad. Goodman is a solid #3 corner nothing more. We are in the bottom half in the league vs the pass and teams easily move the ball against us through the air when they need to - just like at the 9ers last week.

Another thing you didn't cover though, is the offensive and defensive coaching/play-calling.

I think they do a fairly good job for the most part but Henning seriously pisses me off sometimes. Running the Wildcat 2x in a row or...

what really ticked me off, the last game, our last real drive vs the 9ers. It was 3rd and 4 from like the 30. We did that toss play and lost like 3-4 yards....

If you're not going to try and get the 3rd down through the air, then RUN IT UP THE MIDDLE. It probably has a less chance of getting the 4 yards, but also A LOT less chance of losing 3-4 yards like we did.

I don't know, they say hindsight is 50/50...it just pissed me off knowing we have faulty run blocking and running a risky running play when the whole point of running it on 3rd and 4 was a conservative call in the first place, you know?

If you're gonna be conservative and run it, do it the right way...otherwise, throw the damn thing!

We're a team with great coaching. The preperation is there, the conditioning is there (as seen last game) the fire is there, the team comradery is there. We have a true leader and field general in our team MVP (Pennington) Everything is there except the raw talent. We don't have much of it yet. What we are is a competitive rebuilding team with solid leadership from the coaching staff and quarterback. That's our identity. How far will it take us? time will tell.

yeah it is hard to tell how good/bad we are. what we do know is we're technically sound. but we're not beating anyone by any huge margins, and most of our games have been real white-knucklers, which shows me that we're really not that talented and winning on pure heart and coaching above all else.

we've yet to come back and win any game. all of our wins have been on sound defense and mistake-free football in the 4th quarter, which is GREAT, but we haven't really proven our mettle at all yet on offense. is that a negative? it's hard to say, because if don't ever have to make a comeback then it's moot...but i do feel that if we go into the playoffs, we should expect a tight game where we find ourselves down late. and statistically, Chad Pennington's worst quarter is the 4th quarter (80.1 passer rating, compared to 124.5, 89.8, and 98.5 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively).

right now i'd say we're a team built to make it to the playoffs, but not win in the playoffs. but considering we were 1-15 last year, this has been one of the most impressive seasons in NFL history, and i couldn't be happier
