Remember all the comments on how bad Pennington was as a qb even before we signed him. I wish I could have just gave a sampling of comments. when he was a Jet he was noodlearm and no threat but he is Phin so he is the man.

Trent Green was our saviour to teach our qb of the future last year.

Joey Porter was the missing link last year that would make our defense the best in the NFL.

Our special teams would be unbeatable this year due to the emphasis of signing special teams players. People forget we did that every year. Cameron Worrel was not signed to be a starting safety.

Pennington has always been a good quarterback. Anyone who said otherwise was kidding themselves.

The original post for this thread might have a bit more effect if Chad Pennington was not throwing with just about a 100 QB rating and winning some games...and Joey Porter were not playing at damn near DPOY level.

I don't get it. The examples you give of Trent Green and the STs are examples when people were so sure that because we got the player, they would do well. Well, in the case of Chad Pennington and even Joey Porter...they were right.

You missed my point. I always liked Chad Pennington, but he was bashed quite frequently on this board.

As for Porter I was referring to last year when we were coming off a very good defensive season and people were acting like our defense was going to be unstoppable due to adding Porter.

I was only giving examples of peoples thoughts once we aquired them not whether they were right or wrong. Just showing how all of a sudden the critiques of players change when they become Phins.

It's funny that you are bringing this up now......especially since it was a topic of coversation a few months ago.

I want to bring up some of the comments that people had towards Penn overt the years but the search feature is a little generic

Gotcha. Too be honest, it is nothing new here and it certainly is not limited to players. As I have said NUMEROUS times on these forums, Phins fans are the most fickle fans in sports. We eat our young and actually look to seperate the weak and injured from the pack at even the inclination of failure so that we can blame them for everything from a Sunday loss to the rate hikes in fuel prices. One thing you can be certain of is that all of the tides in all of the worlds oceans are static in comparison to the peaks and troughs on these boards (and across Phinland in general). The ability to go from love to hate (and vice versa) in 4 quarters is just the nature of being a Phins fan it seems.

I always said of Pennington that I wouldn't count him out unless his arm completely fell off. His game management skills can elevate a team and he is showing that this year.
