Anatomy of franchise metamorphosis in Miami

You know, as much as i agree with what's being said in your article, i think too many people are fixated on this whole 1-15 to 4-4 thing.

We all knew coming into this situation, that Tony Sparano would look like a genius one way or another. We were not a 1-15 team last year. Regardless of what the stats indicate. We could very easily have been 4-4 at this point last year.

I'm not diminishing our team's play in any way. I'm proud of what Chad and the O have done. And i'm even more proud of what Peezy & defense has done. But i don't think its fair to keep comparing our record today to last seasons.

I thought it was succinctly written and kept to the basics of those things that can be quantified. I think at 4-4 there's been enough games to start gradeing out areas of play. You did mention the two critical third down conversions, which gives me alot of hope. Third down conversions and special teams has GOT to get better as the year goes on.

I could not disagree more. This team is light years beyond last years team in terms of coaching. At this level, small things can bring very tangible results, which we are seeing on the field. Certainly we could have been 4-4 last year, but, you know what? We weren't. We were hapless and bumbleing, always able to shoot ouselves in the foot. This team is not that team. We've let some get away to be sure, but, not to the point of not being a 4-4 team instead of 0-8 last year. I predicted this was a 5 win team this year, which, I later bumped to 5-7 wins. In no way did I believe we'd be 4-4 at this point already, and have the potential to be 12-4. In short, I think it's absolutely fair to compare records. You are what your record says you are.

Wow, just wow. Why not compare to last year. After 8 games last year we should have been 0-16. We were so bad they should have given us two loses for some of those showings last year. Last year this team had ZERO leadership and no direction.
On the other hand what would you rather compare us to, the 72 fins?? We are improving by leaps and bounds, enjoy the ride. Who knows maybe the wheels fall off and Tony, Bill and co. leave in the middle of the night to take a job at N. Davey HS. But until that happens I am gonna enjoy every minute of the fantasy we are living. After all the crap that has happened the last few.....DECADES we need something good to happen around here.

Good read, Hugo. You have to hit bottom before you can climb sometimes. We badly needed a 'shot' of talent for this team to get better, and picking wisely at the top has helped immensely. I like that this team is no longer 'soft'. Different mindset different results. Were headed in the right direction, no matter what happens the rest of the season.

I think the biggest thing between last years team and this years are players are being held accountible for their play. Mistakes seem few and far between compared to last year. Penalty's are down and special teams play has improved although still is this team weakest link. Getting better but still weak. Stupid, lazy penatly's are way down where last year they killed this team. Discipline is the key to the teachings of this team and players know that if they don't get it done the staff will find someone that can. Absolutely amazing the improvement in this area from last year to this year and that is all on the coaching staff.

Don't mean to be a downer but we didn't convert the 3 and 19 with Ronnie on the screen play. We converted a 4th and 1 by handing the ball off to Polite which was a gutsy call both ways. First of all, if we kick a long field goal we give Denver a lot of time left on the clock. If we are stopped they get the ball with a lot of time left and only needing a field goal. Secondly, we gave a ball to a back that I don't believe has a carry yet.
I do believe we have the right coaches to establish mental toughness and that is a little thing that can make a huge difference in the win column.

Good point, although it can be argued that had Brown not come within a few feet of converting, we would have kicked the field goal, so it was a conversion of sorts.

good article we are not making huge mistakes like year's before the interceptions the penalties, we are converting on key situations, stopping the run, not giving up huge plays in our secondary or not as many. and also we are running the ball and having clock control sounds like those are keys to winning any football game. if we can keep it up sky is the limit.

Good write up hugo I agree with and it appears other do as well..., I for one still think that the way this team escaped the injury rash is the second reason (next to coaching) that this team is competeing because lets face it the depth isn't there and it will be someday... I think if we were down a few men by injury we would be struggling in a few key areas..., I am thinking depth of OL and Secondary...

I agree totally with what you said. Guys whose once promising careers seemed to be over, or limited, due to injuries or off field issues (Pennington, Williams, even Brown) and one (Camarillo) whose career probably never should have been have been offensive leaders for the FINS. Porter has been the catalist for an improving defense. If the Dolphins continue to improve in the areas of offensive line, defensive back, wide receiver, and special teams; I feel they will truely become a force in the NFL.
I think there are 2 glaring areas of concern. A tall, fast, physical #1 WR and a shut down corner capable of going 1 on 1 with any receiver in the league. Neither of those needs are abundant or readily available in the NFL. Every team needs one or both. I'd like to see the FINS at least address one of those two areas through the draft (our success this year will make it harder) or trades.

Interesting points, although some might argue that at his current rate of improvement, Jason Allen could be that corner that you refer to.

well written and argued... the only thing i would disagree is that the secondary is...

...what was once a glaring weakness a shining pillar of strength.

I think that while they played a phenomenal game last week they have a ways to go before they become a 'pillar of strength'... JMO... Well written

Agreed, although it's hard to argue with the unit's meteoric improvement over the past two games.

P.S. I think that Jason Allen and Tyrone Culver have played a huge part in the turnaround.
