Being that we really only have one true starter at cornerback, when I keep hearing the news of corner after corner signing with new teams and our own beloved Dolphins in desperate need of one, it left me a little perplexed. I wonder what the f*** is our front office doing. I mean come one we got to face Moss, Welker, Owens, Evans, Cocthery and that's just in our division but then it hit me. I was trying to make logical as to why our front office didn't sign any of these free agent corners and this is my theory. Who has the best defense in the league? Nope not the Ravens it the defending Superbowl champion Steelers. Looking at their defense you see how they are so dominating. Like Pittsburgh, we also use a 3-4 defense. They pressure the QB with relentless play from the outstanding pass rush ala Harrison & Woodley. I feel Parcells think Porter and Wake can play these roles on our defense, I know stating the obvious right, but I know what your thinking what does this have to do with corner. Then I thought why didn't the Steelers re-sign McFadden and here is the reason. They have Ike Taylor who is extremely similar player to Will Allen but they have two monster at their safety position (Polamalu & Clark) who put the fear of God in their opponents. We sign Gibril Wilson and re-signed Yeremiah Bell. Parcells thinking is probably that he hoping these WR's test our beasts and what they'll get is JACKED UP. We will definitely draft a corner and most likely sign someone cheap along the lines of (Bly, Surtain, McAllister). Here is some stats to back up my theory.
Last year games
Pitt vs NE: Moss 4 catches 45 yards 0 TDs
Welker 4 catches 30 yards 0 TDs
Pitt vs Dal: Owens 3 catches 33 yards 1 TD
Roy Williams 2 catches 17 yards
Those are not staggering numbers by any means.
