He should drop down to his college weight and play the end opposite Wake while Starks, Langford, and Odrick rotate at DT. Merling was actually a good prospect as a 4-3 end coming out, primarily as a run stopper, but nonetheless he can obviously do it.

Merling gets cut in TC or at the beginning of the new fiscal year. After we cut Bell, there is no reason why we couldnt sign Langford AND Soliai.

If we had any intention of signing Soliai or Langford
Why wern't they extended this past season???
 
We need to find a way to keep him since I do not see us keeping Langford. He will be too expensive and a lot of teams will be after a good, and young 3-4 DE. Merling will have to prove his value, and he will come cheap. Since we already spent this long developing him, lets keep him and make him prove his worth.
 
Why does everyone want to trade Merling. The market for backup DE's who have had domestic issues is a pretty small one.
