Great to hear he is taking his job more seriously these days. He may earn that 8.5M after all. He has the physical tools to be a better DE. Sometimes players don't maximize that off the field and it shows on the field. He is certainly doing the right things to get better. That's a good thing.

After breaking into the league with a quiet 2012 season as a second-round pick of Jacksonville, he decided he wasn’t doing enough to improve. So little by little, the letters R&R were replaced by PT and MMA.

Isn't competition a wonderful thing? When a person is in fear of losing his job and reality starts to kick in that your replacement could be a kid that was just drafted, it tends to light a fire under ones a$$. Gase has made his point either verbally or by actions, get better or you won't be here very long. That's got to be scary for some of those guys.
