A former San Francisco 49ers first-round pick is hoping to land an NFL coaching job.

Two sources told Sporting News that Andre Carter is meeting with the Miami Dolphins about their assistant defensive line coach vacancy.

Carter, 37, was the No. 7 overall pick by the 49ers in the 2001 NFL Draft. He played there for five seasons before going to Washington on a lucrative free-agent contract. He played there for another five years.

One of the best DL coaches in the game is still just sitting out there available for hire...why not hire Tomsula?

We'd rather have Terrell Williams I guess. Not sure why. We tried to replace him previously. He's not real impressive.

If you want someone to get the most out of Jordan Phillips it's Tomsula

Falcons fire coaches Richard Smith and Bryan Cox after Super Bowl collapse

The team said Wednesday that coach Dan Quinn has dismissed coordinator Richard Smith and defensive line coach Bryan Cox, though there’s a chance Smith could stay with the Falcons in an advisory role.

The changes mean the NFC champions will have two new coordinators next season. Kyle Shanahan left to become head coach of the San Francisco 49ers and was replaced as offensive coordinator by Steve Sarkisian .

“On one hand, it’s not surprising to see a team that gave up a 25-point lead in the Super Bowl decide to try and improve the defense by making changes,” writes CBSSports.com’s Will Brinson. “On the other hand, the Falcons defense took a big step forward in the latter part of the 2016 season, with the young defense starting to gel and then looking incredible in the first half against the Patriots.”
