signing flynn will be the big disaster in this whole thing.
if nothing else, what fans SHOULD have seen in that big game of his [1 of his 2 starts] is the packers system, one of the few teams that run a pure version of bill walshes west coast offense, is ULTRA efficiant and almost ANYONE qb can come in and have success in it.
yes, there have been some big time guys in that system, montana, steve young, ok. then you have the TRUE immortals, elvis gerbach and garcia.
MONTANA: all world in that system. it was designed for him. but he was not real happy that steve young came in and IMEDIATELY looked just as good, maybe better. joe left for greener pasteurs to show them all the superbowls resided in his arm, unfortunately, the chiefs didnt have the WCO or bill walsh. no superbowls for joe, a coupleof 1 and done playoff appearances. hmmmmm... .
STEVE YOUNG: drafted by the bucs. awsome college player at BYU. couldnt do diddly in tampa and was jettisoned to san fran. fans were FURIOUS as he was obviously an nfl turd. BUT WAIT!! all of a sudden he is completing every pass, running all over the field, exciting the fans. and bumming joe montana. as bill walsh said, this system was designed around joe but its efficientcy allows qb's to succeed right away. its the ultimate system for qb's and you only need a small set of certain skills to run it. hmmmm........ .
GERBACH and GARCIA: living proof of what bill said.
MONTANA: mr wco. looked only decent without it.
STEVE YOUNG: had the bust label BEFORE coming to the wco. shined INSTANTLY with it.
GERBACH and GARCIA: nobodys who were laughed at by the fans. looked pretty damn good in it. gerbach was trash when he was out of it. garcia playedit smart and only played for wco teams after san fran.
GREENBAY: were seeing the legacy and efficientcy of the WCO continue. didnt take long for aaron rodgers to become all world. it took all of ONE game to have the qb starved fans teams to make MATT FLYNN the next tom brady. next time that game is played, look at aaron rodgers face at the end of the game when their showing him on the sideline. the smirk. the look on his face that SCREEMS, "ok, that was cute. nice game, but its a one off". but the look in his eyes says, "crap! a guy off the bench can walk on and throw 6 td's. i dont need this right now, my props are huge and i got a 2 game rookie out shining me. cant have folks start believing its more the system than my talent".
I HAVE WANTED this type of the WCO here for years! and this will eventually have us in the same position as those before us had, the abiltity to have continuous great qb play and point totals. but wait................
if anyone looks at matt moore and knows about the skill set needed for the WCO, he is a PERFECT fit for that offense. he is more mobile than flynn and many more starts. so all those thinking "sweet! matt flyn!! we gots us a starter!!" dont bet yer paycheck.
you CAN bet yer paycheck on the fact that philbin will get the pieces on the offensive line we need and matt moore will have a wall to do his thing and wont be throwing on a dead run on every play. then what? all that money the pack knows it going to get for flynn is going to SERIOUSLY handicap a teams cap room. and we need a whole lot more than a one game phenom to get us to the show.
flynn fans pepared for that?
i dont have a problem with flynn coming here as long as it wont cost to many pics and cap busting salary. but it will. and we need to much. its always great to be in a situation where you have two exellent qb's, but sometimes the cost, both monetarily and in the locker room is NOT worth it. and if we [or any other team] brings him in and he doesnt get the starting job, the ripple effect of bad mojo will start.
our smart move is to look at who may pop up in f/a, a qb with wco experiance to be behind and compete with matt moore. then draft a ryan tennehill at some point. this keeps a team who needs LOTS of pieces from killing their new coaching staff and furthering that teams demise for MANY, MANY years right off the bat!!
its important that we dont instantly kill off the staff and offensive system most of us have been dying for right off the bat by making rash or stupid moves. we dont have the luxery right now of taking a HUGE gamble on a 1 game phenom.
and PHILBIN probably already knows this and all the flynn to miami folks are getting themselves worked up over nothing. he may not be bringing flynn along for the ride.
