The key word, I’m quickly learning, about this Adam Gase offense is flexibility. There are choices everywhere. Find a mismatch and seize it. That’s the mindset. This, I believe, will have the most profound effect on quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Gase was asked about Tannenhill’s level of intelligence on Thursday and called it “off the charts.” That says plenty right there. The days are apparently over of Tannehill being locked into the sideline call.

I know that Jakeem Grant is only 5-foot-6, but it really hits home when you see him on the practice field, standing next to his teammates. However, with the ball in his hands, and his gear turned up high, that lack of height means little. “We call him Mighty Mouse,” said Tannehill with obvious affection.

• A healthy DeVante Parker in Year 2 could be something special. There are signs of that, I’m told, in almost every practice.

• Tannehill talks about the first time he saw No. 1 pick Laremy Tunsil in the weight room and almost did a double take. “Wow, now that looks like an offensive lineman,” he said. Based on what I hear, Tunsil has been everything so far the Dolphins had hoped he would be.

Jay Ajayi has lost weight and gained confidence. You can see it in the way he runs.

I expect second-year cornerback Tony Lippett to get plenty of opportunities to earn a starting job. You just can’t teach 6-foot-3 at a position as important as that one.

I still think the odds are stacked against Grant but will see.

Grant will be at minimum a good addition as a KR imo, I could see him doing damage at WR despite the size issue, Gase is certainly the right coach to create mismatches for him.

Getting hit and sent flying is not new to Grant...He seems hell-bent on proving his size is not a limitation, but an asset, brave kid!!

Because I still think his size and weight are going to make it hard for him. I understand that he is fast.

Let me change it a little - what contributions do you expect to get from him?

Jakeem Grant stated that that is the initial view point he was faced with through out his career. He's a really tuff kid, alpha attitude and heard one guy state that he was so small it was like tackling smoke. He could be one of the few who occasionally hit the league who use their size to their advantage. I don't see the size as a that much of a disadvantage as long as he is tough enough to withstand the hits he will be receiving at this level.

Can see him returning kicks (not necessarily Drake) and also another offensive tool to keep defenses guessing, lining him up all over the place....Seems to be the direction of the new offense, providing more flexibility and choices everywhere and his speed and and abilities just another threat for a defense to worry about.

There's a few short, skinny guys making huge impacts on teams. Most notably Brown for Arizona (now I know he's an exception)

I expect Grant to make an immediate impact on ST, he's to fast and explosive not to do something. Good football players find away to do things they shouldn't do. He's one of those guys.

in reference to Grant, I played football for 8 years, de and middle lber, played quite a few guys like him. It was damn near impossible to get a clean hit on the smaller quicker offensive players. Mind you, i'm not stating I was an NFL caliber player like Grant will be facing but its really tough for a bigger defender to get low enough and maintain their center of gravity to light him up. He's going to really frustrate defenders imo. I know his type always frustrated me. Come around the edge just knowing youre about to knock the ball carrier unconscious and a second later you're standing there with your peter in your hand wondering what just happened.

I see him (if he is active on game days and not on the PS) to have some role on special teams and maybe a couple of plays on offense. Like you said he could be one of the few that makes it but yes I worry about him holding up

Its not that Im saying he is not tough, but we had the discussion in the other thread if one of the big guys get him or if he comes accross the middle he could take some hard hits. Maybe that will be part of the play design for him to try and keep him away from those types of situations. I still think he will have limited plays though because if he is out there someone else has to sit.

If he can hold up is the question. If he can bring his talent to the field I don't see so much limited because there are enough players out there that like you said will need to sit to give him substantial time on the field.. this all depends on if he is who we hope he is....

I'm Agua, and I approve of this message.

I can definitely see some trailing underneath stuff going to him and him turning on the jets then turning upfield. No lb could cover him.
