The Cincinnati Bengals have signed quarterback Andy Dalton to a six-year contract extension through 2020, the team announced Monday.

The new deal is for $115 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Adam Caplan. Sources told Caplan that Dalton will make $22 million within the first six months of the deal based on bonuses (signing, roster and workout) and base salary.

Averages out to about nineteen million dollars per season.

This means Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, RG3, Russell Wilson, & Ryan Tannehill will all probably surpass that threshold whenever it is that they sign their second contracts. Maybe even Nick Foles.

Its a lot of money but still a great deal for the Bengals. If he plays great they've got him locked up in a long term deal and they don't have to get sucked into a Joe Flacco type contract. If he stinks up the joint they can draft a qb and decide whether its worth it to keep him around another year.

I don't get why any of these guys agree to the play as you go contracts. Dalton could have easily walked away with 40+ mil guaranteed.

It is really a two year deal with incentives to keep increasing if he plays well past that.

2 years and 25 million. Not a bad deal for the Bengals.

If you look at his Cap numbers in 2016 he can be cut and the Bengals eat about 7 million.
If he is playing well his cap number is only 13 million, which is a bargain for a QB.

Playoff wins could make the contract larger in the end by incentives.
