Another evening practice report...

Are we running more deep routes? Its probably too early to tell but I am wondering what kind of patterns the receivers are running this year

Good report. Im really liking all the positive things im hearing about Booker.

Just got back (had to make a pit stop at La Carretta :D ) and thought I'd chime in with my observations...

-Ricky looks like he never missed a day. Fresh legs, spring in his step, cutting
pretty instinctively, catching all swing passes thrown his way.

-Boston is putting in an effort out there. No dogging, made two nice diving
catches on out patterns that I saw. Wasn't able to come up with the deep
ones, but some of those were underthrown, others featured good plays by
the DB. Still looks huge, probably about 230, 235. No limp whatsoever.

-The intensity and hustle is there with all the position groups, but it is
disciplined and controlled intensity for the most part. Just one scuffle that
I caught, Jeno James against someone I didn't catch.

- Saban is active, and he is extremely hands-on. Spent a lot of the early
portion of practice with the secondary, constantly teaching technique,
even doing some backpedalling himself. After Reggie Howard got beat a
a couple of times (including one very nice adjustment on a deep throw by
Wes Welker), he was spending some one-on-one time with him off to the
side.

- Seau did not participate. Zach did and was very active, made a couple of
would-be tackles behind the line during drills that I caught.

- Booker, unlike what was reported in another thread about evening practice,
most definitely did practice, and was the most consistent of the top 3 WR.
Made several nice catches, including a beauty of a one-hander in a battle
against the CB.

- In the "way down the depth chart" department, #16 Maurice Mann seemed
to turn in some nice catches. On the defensive side of the ball, #49 Jack
Hunt (safety) also had good coverage several times and helped break up at
least one pass in tandem with Tony Bua during drills.

- The best way to describe the QBs in the evening was inconsistent when it
came to completion percentage. Their throws were all fairly strong,
although Frerotte did have more flutterers than anyone else. Lots of outlet
passes. Heath Evans, of all people, had quite a few short receptions
today.

- Travis Minor looked particularly fluid and quick, almost juking David Bowens
out of his jockstrap during one bounce outside in 11-on-11.

- Autograph granters at the end of practice (from what I saw) were Damien
McIntosh (he was 1st), A.J. Feeley, Rosenfels, #95 DT Josh Shaw, #2 S
Abram Elam, and.....Nick Saban himself. He spent a good 15-20 minutes by
the fence signing everything he could.

So which of the quarterbacks did the best in your opinion?

I actually spoke to Nick, and I just kep telling him all we need was a real coach; and "He said well you got one, and smiled..Wow..What a practice. The change in time is the perfect thing to do. I'm just so excited right now.

Screps, I actually give Feeley the nod for the evening overall. I'd be curious to read what some of the other posters who were there think. Frerotte looked adequate, but as I'd stated, the 2 or 3 flutterers that I saw were a little concerning.

I think Nasty mentioned in his report that he might've been hurt, as he thinks he saw him grabbing his wrist after a weird 20-yard throw on about a 40-yard pattern (now that he mentioned it, I do remember that). I didn't see the wrist grabbing myself, so I don't know.

Rosenfels also threw nicely; Berlin looked a bit lost at times, LOL. Held on to the ball once too long and would've been sacked in a game easily.

I would have to say Booker was the best receiver out there tonight. But you can see the maturity in Chris, and the hunger in David Boston..Thank God Ricky is back, he looks just as good as he did before he left.

Dude you're avatar is freaking me out

I almost posted on this as well... I was going to let him know that: His cross-breed between a p*n*s and a llama is still as disturbing today as it was when I first saw it. :rofl3:

CRAZYDOLF, you echo my sentiments.

BTW, the "hunger" in Boston that you saw was just because he hadn't had his magnesium IV drip yet, followed by the grain-fed chicken breasts with the asparagus, and the blueberries for the simple carbs. Followed by a colonic tomorrow morning. :D

CRAZYDOLF, I think I was standing right under you by the fence, LOL! I did hear someone saying "all we needed was a coach, we have the talent"!! Was that you?

Well that was pretty well worth the wait. Good post, jc. I like that he's keeping an eye on the not so well known guys. Love hearing that Bua is working at safety some. Keep it up, dude.
