As I poke around the numerous Pennington threads on here something occured to me. The majority of people either love or hate this deal. From what I can tell it's mostly the Beck supporters who are so upset. IMO the only person Beck supporters should be mad at is Beck and McCown. Think about it, neither one of these guy was able to prove they were any better than a rookie! I've read about taking our lumps with Beck so he can develop blah blah blah...We're supposed to be rebuilding with youth...blah blah blah. Put your bias aside for a minute and think about this. If our running game turns out to be as dominate as we're all hoping for what we need at QB is a game manager. Someone who won't turn the ball over and is able to pick up the 3rd and 5, 3rd and 6 yards situations. If you honestly think McCown, Beck, or Henne are able to do that better than Pennington I think your delusional. No arguing he is a smart QB. We are a really young football team. We need veteran leadership from the QB. Pennington give us that. If we go 3-13 with Beck or McCown at the helm how much confidence do you think these guys are going to build in the systerm the coaches are trying to install. I only see Pennington as a 1 yr stopgap until Beck or Henne are ready to take over. If Pennington stays health and has a decent yr, we can get a 2nd day pick for him from someone I'm sure. You can be mad at the FO, but I think it's definately Beck and McCown who should take the blame on this one.

I'm a Beck supporter who's happy about the Pennington signing. I just want to win some games this year, and Pennington gives us the best chance to do that unless Beck steps up his game throughout preseason. If he does i'll be thrilled. But until Beck shows me something the jury is out and Pennington is a proven guy and the best QB on our roster until someone steps up and shows otherwise.

I think Beck's done in Miami. I like JB but having that farcical year as his first may have hurt him as an NFL QB. I love the Pennington signing because it will hopefully bring us 2-3 years of solid game managing, IF WE NEED IT. IE, if Beck (if he's still here) or Henne get a grasp over the next 12 or 24 months, then they'll start over Pennington. Beck though has everything in the world to prove and never really had a level grounded shot at proving himself here.

Pennington takes the pressure off of Henne to prove himself immediately and develop in his own time. Much like Pennington did under Testaverde and Brady did under Bledsoe. If there's one thing that can pretty much be guaranteed of Pennington, it's that no matter what standard he's playing at, his back-up, or understudy is going to get his chance.

The only thing that would stand in the way of that is if Chad leads us to 55-60% or makes the playoffs. If he does, then what's the problem anyway?!

Same here... I am a Beck supporter, Im a supporter for all our QBs, whoever wins games! Afterall last I checked we are all on the same team? Im stoked about the Pennington signing. Go FIns!

If nothing else it should definately make the phins-jets rivalry that much more interesting.

Picking up Pennington is definetly a win win scenerio. Penny is a warrior, a professional, a seasoned vet who is gonna comein here and demand respect, not with his mouth but with his actions, his work ethic. He is a stop gap QB, no doubt, but dont be surprise if he stays healthy that he stays here a few years. When healthy this kid is lethal, he can run an offense, he CAN make the throws needed, granted he doesnt have a gun but he will get the ball there. Penny has something to prove, he is 32 years old and surely feels he can play this game till he is as old as old man Favre, maybe not here but in this league. If he stays healthy I now we will be pleasantly surprised and he will take Lil Chad and make him a Pro QB. Chad is one of the smartest QB's in the NFL and if he can teach that stuff to a stud like Henne Dolphins will be happy from now till the next 10-12 years.
