"Two South Florida newspapers reported Friday that the Chiefs have agreed in principal on a multi-year contract extension that would be the first step in a trade for Miami cornerback Patrick Surtain.

If those reports are true, it's news to Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil.
"I don't know if that's true or not," Vermeil said Friday. "I was with Carl (Peterson, team president) all day yesterday in Baton Rouge, and he didn't say anything about it. I think it's more of a rumor."
 
Yeah, I read that also. They are just denying it, just in case something doesn't work out in the end. A deal has been completed between Surtain and the Chiefs, but they have a right not to admit it. Now, it seems like Carl is caving on his demands, so IMO in the end we will get our 2nd rounder and $5.5 million of cap space. Both teams win.
 
yea right, Vermeil...he'll be crying like a baby if Surtain deal doesn't happen soon. Just another case of trying to say something without really saying anything.
 
I agree this is a win-win for both teams. The Chiefs need to get it together and step up that offer. They'd be fools not to.
 
The chiefs with a decent defense for once would be a scary thing indeed. They need to give up the pick and bite the bullet. Immediate results for them.. unlike us (2nd for AJ) ;-/ Need all the picks we can get.
 
if they weren't planning on making the deal for surtain, wouldn't they have tried harder to sign samari rolle or fred smoot. since they didn't get those guys, i would think that the pressure is on them to sign surtain. if i was a chiefs fan i would be enraged if they got nobody.....
 
I'm sad to see Surtain leave. I wish that he would lower his contract and stay a Phin.
 
there is a rumor that there is a gentlemens agreement between Law & Peterson. The Chiefs will sign nobody until they give him another look after his walking boot is removed. Law deserves that much having made no more visits since visiting with the Chiefs. That meeting should take place this week
 
Rumor I heard was that Pittsburgh was actually the team most interested in Ty Law.

I heard different, i heard on the Browns board that there is going to be a big announcement sometime tomorow. Many of them said that they "heard" that the PC will be about the Browns signing Law.
 
Pittsburgh is where his mother lives, finishing up his career there might be the way he wants to go
