I know that he isnt a "big name" but these are the kind of free agents that we need to pick up. Antwan Peek is a perfect fit for our 3-4 defense. He was under Dom Campers for his first three seasons and was just starting to come into his own in Capers last season at Texas. Last year, Houston switched from 3-4 to 4-3 and tried to play him at defensive end. He is 6-3, 250. I doubt that he is going to re-sign with Houston since their defensive system doesnt fit him. I would think that the best fit for him is in Miami with his old coach and the system that he knows best. He had 6 sacks in '05. This would be a nice compliment to Taylor. He has only played 4 seasons, so he is still young with alot of upside. I think he would be a much better "value" than going after someone like Adalius Thomas who is looking to break the bank. I hope Capers has his sights set on Peek.

Agreed, these are the types of small signings that you can build a team with along with the draft. I seriously doubt we will be serious contenders next season so why break the bank on a guy like Adalius Thomas?

We're actually no that far away. We just need to at least stabilize the offense.

I completely agree with you. Its free agents like these that can help your team. They are cheap, overlooked, and its always a plus when they have experience with someone on your staff. Last year we signed guys like Andre Goodman and Renaldo Hill, guys that weren't big time free agents, but they started for us and performed adequetely. I wouldn't mind bringing in Antwan Peek to at least provide good depth. I think Jason Babin, the former first round pick of Capers could maybe get released since he doesn't fit the scheme and has too big of a contract.

peek could be interesting and we can draft an OLB too in 4 or 6eme rounder (burgess why not or bazuin) to solidify our LB corps for years to come, and peek channing and zach with the rookie on back up role would seems promising.

Just MO and would be very much cheaper than adalius thomas or briggs money.

My opinion is that if he is better than Spragan sure. Spragan name never gets called for Sacks, INTS or Force Fumbles. But he doesnt get called for negative plays either. So my opinion is that If Antuan Peek can play better than Spagan bring him in, if not dont. U want to upgrade no bring some of what you laready have.

I believe he would be a great addition to our d. Capers loves to blitz and that seems to be Peek's strongpoint.

I just really hope New England doesnt get him. He reminds me of Mike Vrabel a little bit. Flashes of being a very good player but his team gave up on him too early. The right team and right system could allow him to flourish. Plus, who better to take him under his wing than Jason Taylor!!

He was the first pick of the 3rd round in 2003. His first 2 seasons he was just a "spot" player but in his 3rd season he started every game in Capers system and registered 6 sacks. After Capers was fired, the Texans switched systems from 3-4 to 4-3. They tried Peek at defensive end instead of outside linebacker and he never really caught on. I think he battled some nagging injuries at the start of the year.
I think he could be last year's Bart Scott. Bart Scott was a free agent after last season. At that time he had only had 4 sacks in 3 seasons and only started one season. Hardly anyone even knew who Bart Scott was at this time last year. Baltimore re-signed him and he had a Pro-Bowl season with 9 sacks.
Everyone wants to sign players who have already put up big numbers but those guys are going to be way overpaid. We need to find the players who are on the upside with their best years still ahead of them. Most players have their most productive seasons between year 4 and year 7.
Look at Adalius Thomas for example:
Thomas in his first 4 seasons only had 10 sacks.
In Thomas' last 3 seasons he has registered 28 sacks.

But, someone will break the bank to get him and he will probably only give them a couple of good productive years and he may never put up the kind of numbers that he did in the past 3 seasons. A change in system and teammates plus a huge contract doesnt usually bring the best results.

That is why I like Peek. He hasnt put up big numbers yet and he certainly is not a "household" name. He would be making a move into a system that he already knows and is comfortable with. He certainly would be playing with much more talent around him compared to what he had in his 4 seasons in Houston. And you shouldnt have to overpay to get him.

All of these things considered - he could be the steal of the off-season for us.

i actually want 2 linebackers from the Texans that Capers coached...Antwan Peek and Shantae Orr...2 perfect linebackers for our 3-4 and im sure they would come cheap

I'm pretty sure most un-biased NFL fans would agree that we are at best the third-best or worst team in the AFC East, I'd call that pretty far away.
