Is there any precedent for this?

He's likely not going to be a HC here or anywhere else next season, but would it be too awkward for him to stay as an assistant? He seems like a good guy to keep around.

Nope, can't see it happening, only if Payton came would be his only possibility of maybe staying...

I agree with Albert. I could also say that a hire that is complete confident in his own skin would offer to keep him on. Jim Mora Jr. would for example.

Interims never stay

Right but almost 100% of interims are coordinators Dan being a former tightend may not have an upgraded opportunity. He could stick with the right hire but unlikely.

I wonder if he would be happy just going back to coaching the tight ends

Amazing how getting an opportunity to step up could get punished. He's done a good job w a crap roster and average QB play. No coach in the league was taking this team minus Cam Wake and this roster to the playoffs. I don't know how he's not offered a job of some kind w the organization. It's like having a backup player come in and do better than the starter who went down w injury - and then not resign the guy who stepped up. As Gruden put it, we should be trying I keep any of these young coaches that have shown something. Campbell definitely has.

Its not a knock on Dan on not getting another position coach job someplace its just the new HC would want to bring his own staff in, thats usually how it works they will want people they have a connection with...

He will find a job on another team.

Farming coaches is Miami's specialty.
Yeah, if you can be successful here then you can survive anywhere. You truly can make chicken salad out of chicken **** if you are successful in Miami these days.

Unless we get an experienced head coach who will rebuilt this team, I say keep Campbell and load up on experienced coordinators. Let's get a team vision everyone buys into and we MUST hit on drafts and free-agency. We can't keep swinging and missing with our picks. Suh and Tanneyhill restructures would go a long way to help bring needed talent.

Only DC knows if he would come back to this team. I am not sure, if it was me, if I would accept the TE coaches job again. He isn't really qualified to be a coordinator. He is in a tough spot.

Whether he stepped up or not didn't matter if a new coach is coming in next season since he'd likely have lost his job either way. Campbell is no worse off for taking that shot than if he hadn't.
