I was wondering what people thought about a possible change at D-Cord. position. Seemed like last year Saban tried to get 3 other people at D-Cord and didn't have any luck so settled with how we have now. Didn't know if after this season is over if Saban will focus on this position and try to get someone else to take over this role or stay with what we have.

richard smith has done a heck of a job..no reason to go in another direction

Saban is the real defensive coordinator anyways. Richard Smith is just an extension of Saban.

Our DC has done a good job and he'll stay.I think Linehan will stay too but more importantly..HH will stay with our o-line.

Ozzy rules!! :guitar:

maybe saban lets muschamp be the DC its their defense anyway.

I remember last year that Saban really wanted Peas from NE and couldn't really do anything about it until this year due to contracts or something that he had to wait a year to interview and make a serious offer. At that point I got the feeling that the current D-Cord. was a stop gap until he was able to get who he really wanted. I agree I love what the defense is doing just was wondering if anyone had heard anything more to this and if Peas's contract is indeed up at the end of this season.

I thought I remembered something like that but I can't remember the exact scenario. Either way, i'm fine with the way things have progressed with this Defense. So whether we get peas or not, i'm fine with it.

I truly feel tha we will have a new defensive coordinator next year. Whether it be Muschamp or someone else. I think Will has been calling most of the plays anyways. I think RIchard Smith was just a temporary answer. I do not see him back next year.

I think we get Marinelli and Tomlin from the Bucs. We're going to be paying assistant coaches BIG money. I think that was Saban's main negotiating point with NFL owners -- he wants an open pocketbook to sign big name assistants.

I was thinking the same thing and posted it in aother thread before I read this one. Dean Pees is a long time associate and close friend of Saban and I think Nick even helped him get his current job in NE. This was the final year of his contract and Saban wanted him last year, but BB wouldn't let him out of his contract. He'll be free after this season and it would not be the least bit surprising to see Saban hire him for some role on the defensive side of the coaching staff. DC makes sense, or possibly LB coach. Pees was Saban's DC at MSU as well as ILB coach.

Tomlin maybe, but Marinelli has been in Tampa since 1996. He is also their Asst Head Coach so if Gruden wants to keep him, he'll keep him. Rod is also their DL coach and our DL is coach has done a good job and is a highly regarded young asst coach in the league, so I do not see Saban replacing him after just one season.
