Any Notes on Abram Elam?

why? he hasn't practiced much yet and you don't know what he's looked like so far. because he raped someone? all you Ricky forgivers need to give this guy a second chance too

Whoa... You'd be up for giving a rapist a second chance? I dunno.. That aint like smoking the ganja.. That is a vicious crime against another person... Rape is only about a couple inches away from murder on the "f'd up mofo that should be locked up for life" chart imo..

Now we dont know this Elam character's involvement in this incident, but if he did rape someone, the guy shouldnt be making 6 digits playing football.. JMHO.

hold on a minute, so we don't actually know if he raped her or not? and you condem him for just being accused of rape? :shakeno:

It seems to me that the courts levied a punishment for whatever his involvement was. Why do people feel he needs to pay in other ways?

The story I heard is that Elam was among a group, but that he is the one that took the rap for whatever happened.

He took the rap for a specific act, not for the rape itself

He engaged in what was defined as sexual battery for touching the lady in a separate incident. The rape accusation was against another group of men at a later time (I believe in the same evening, but at the same place). I don't know the site, but I read the newspaper story on this.

here an article of when Elam was convicted http://www.blueandgold.com/article.asp?ID=2419&TopicArea=1
Former Notre Dame defensive back Abram Elam was convicted of sexual battery Saturday in the St. Joseph (Ind.) Superior Court. But Elam was acquitted of more serious charges of criminal deviate conduct and conspiracy to commit rape.

Elam was found guilty of a Class D felony, which carries a sentence of up to three years in prison and a fine up to $10,000. Judge Roland W. Chamblee Jr. could choose to sentence Elam to not more than a year in prison or a $5,000 fine.

Had Elam been convicted of criminal deviate conduct and conspiracy to commit rape, he would have faced a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Three other former Irish players will go on trial in upcoming weeks. Donald Dykes’ trial is set for Sept. 8, and will be followed by those of Justin Smith and Lorenzo Crawford. Contrary to Elam, the other three have been charged with rape.

Ummm, the statement I responded to mentioned "forgive a rapist".. My response was to the notion of "forgiving a rapist"..

my agruement is that he just took the rep for the rape but actually other people raped her and he was convicted of a lesser felony so he did not rape her and should be given a second chance

My question is if hypothetically he had raped someone and the courts said he had to serve some set amount of jail time, once he served that time are we (society) expected to continue punishing him.

This is not like the RW situation at all. RW was in an environment, lied and hurt those in that environment. Now he is being placed in the same environment again with the opportunity to behave the same way again. A rapist is in a different environment from the one in which he commited his offense. If he was never a detriment to the football environment so placing him back in the same environment doesn't cause any increased risk to those in that environment.
