Will there be any quality O-lineman available when the june first date comes around? This injury really bothers me on so many levels:(

There may be no real quality o-linemen cut because of the end of the collective bargaining agreement after this season. When teams cut players before June 1st they are able to push the cap hit to the next year. Now, because 2010 is an uncapped year the cap hit will be accelerated to this years cap. So basically if a team was going to cut someone to save cap space this year, it would have already needed to have been done.

However, I have read in other articles and blogs that many NFL front offices believe a new collective bargaining agreement will be worked out and that they will continue to do business as such.

Yeah, probably no cap cuts to count on this year. If we grab someone, it will only be when teams start to trim down their roster numbers, but we are a ways off on that and what quality guys are really going to be trimmed off teams rosters ?

First off, Donald Thomas *may* have bumped his way off the starter's block (emphasis on may) but he is currently scheduled to be healthy enough to at the very least be a backup.

Secondly, they did go through some trouble to bring along some depth. We'll just have to find out what Joe Berger, Ike Ndukwe, Andy Alleman, Brandon Frye, Shawn Murphy, Mark Lewis and J.D. Quinn can do in competition with one another. No doubt though, that's where the bodies on the OL are all stuffed.

At tackle, they have just Andrew Gardner, Nate Garner and SirVincent Rogers. You can tell they're much less worried about those two positions, with Jake Long and Vernon Carey showing both durability and skill.

I just really hope Donald Thomas doesn't turn into the next Joe Toledo or Drew Mormino, constantly hurt before he even see's the field. The guy showed great potential and got huge praise from the D-Line i was really hoping he would turn into a huge draft steal

That would be damn tragic if he proved as injury prone as Toledo. I'm not sure Mormino was truly injury prone, he ran into a string of bad luck, but he also just wasn't that good. Toledo I thought showed some promise on the field before going through a steady stream of injuries.

Keep an eye out for Mark Lewis, the UDFA from Oregon.

When I've watched the guy play, he really sets his feet quickly to get maximum leverage and he explodes into his blows using his feet and hips really well. He's the definition of a trench "fighter" because he is always keeping an eye out for people to knock around, and he's a brawler. He'll take swipes at anyone that comes close to him, he's not one of those guys that just waits for someone to engage him directly and lets people run by him 5 feet away. He has good body control for cut blocks. Best of all, from what I could see anyway, he was consistent and he finished blocks.

On the downside, the guy does not have movement skills. He looks dumpy and he moves dumpy. He'll do a great job looking for someone to block on the second level, and sticking to his blocks there, but he doesn't have the feet to get out there quickly enough. The biggest weakness is, if he's going to survive as a starter in the NFL, he's going to have to develop almost a Zach Thomas-like sixth sense for things that are going to happen...because with his lack of range he's going to have to anticipate and recognize stunts and delayed blitzes more quickly than other guys.

One guard being injured dosn't ruin our season. It didn't last year and won't again this year..Given his spot in the draft he dosn't make alot of money. So what if he goes on PUP or even IR.We have other bodies to take over.Quit worring about a guard who may be injury prone.

The silver lining on this if there is one is the timing of this. at least it is in may not late August or Sept. We have time to get his replacement ready for the season opener.
