Any one notice Vernon?

wow...vernon is absolutely an improved pass rusher...misi being signed who plays solb to an extension has nothing to do with vernons long term prognosis on this roster...i get that misi gets some 2 deep run at de in passing situations etc as part of a rotation but saying vernon has no future with this team is rediculous...

for one thing he's signed for 2 more years by then wake may not be as impactful an every down player may be on the downside of his career given his age but i doubt that will be the case...for the other thing dion jordan may not be playing an every down de then either...especially if these shoulder issues don't go away...and jordans versatility as a rusher means that he could play in sets with wake and vernon at end as we have already seen...

misi is a straight bull rusher who doesn't have vernons hips vernon gives tackles more fits than misi ever will already...he needs work on his run the arc rush as pat london has stated but to say the guys got no future is a complete misevaluation...vernon may already be as good a run defender wake too...

young player wilth upside...seriously that's complete nonsense...

Maybe you should watch the game before you make comments. You can't get an accurate picture of what happened by just looking at the stats sheet.

People really need to look at the Giants to see what we're trying to create with the pass rush. They've seemingly had a stable of pass rushers for years and that hasn't ever stopped them from drafting the next contributor along that line, even with a high pick. They've won two Super Bowls in recent years because of the ability of their pass rush.

When I watch a d-line performance like what we had against the Browns, I realize their may actually be something to this Ireland masterplan.

yeah it's called a 2 deep rotation of guys that get after the qb...and vernons a part of it

i just cant buy that Oliver Vernon isnt a good pass rusher , he done very good in preseason ,he had alot of pressure on his side , not sure what the sack count was for OV but imo he has what it takes to play the poss he is playing , and as Philbin , Ireland have stressed that you can never have enough pass rushers , i just dont think Ireland moved up to pick Jordan to replace Vernon , i think as it was stressed , and we have depth at the poss , more or less that we dont wear down as the game gose on we will still be fresh , but just like Wallace will get his at WR , Oliver Vernon will get his .he is a much improved player , and it will show soon enough , he wont be going against the best LT in football every week like he did against the browns Joe Thomas .. Vernon will get his .

These are just untrue statements. Well, to the extent that subjective statements can be untrue.

This^^^ I'm sure Jordan will ultimately take the starting job, but Vernon is in the long term plans of the Dolphins. Shelby backed up our best pass rusher n Wake yesterday, and he still got plenty of burn. Not sure that we don't have the best d-line in the league right now top to bottom considering all 8 guys in the rotation.

Vernon is decent, but even Derrick Shelby had a better game as far as pass rushing goes. Dat Joe Thomas.

Well let me explain it more clearly since you seem to be confused by what I was saying, particularly about Koa Misi.

The Dolphins did not draft Dion Jordan at number three overall for him to be a 500 snap player. They drafted him number three overall to be Cameron Wake, who plays nearly every down. He can't do that if Olivier Vernon stays in his current role. He MIGHT have been able to do it if the Dolphins did not sign Koa Misi to a contract extension, because Jordan might have slid into Misi's role as a linebacker on base downs. Now that Misi is on a somewhat expensive 4 year contract extenstion, that's no longer a possibility.

If everything goes according to plan with number three overall pick Dion Jordan, especially given Cameron Wake's accounting for about $9 million a year from 2014 to 2016, then Olivier Vernon's FUTURE is to be a player that rotates in off the bench. A Derrick Shelby. Whether you call that a bright future or not, I don't know. It's subjective. That's up to you. But it is what it is.

I read an article by Kevin Nogle on another site where he said Miami was enamored with the Giants "NASCAR PACKAGE". I got to give Ireland and Staff credit for having the guts to 1) go get Dion Jordan 2) For trying to implement High Pressure Scheme and 3) Realizing it was going to take 7-8 man rotation to keep everyone fresh for 4 quarters. Players like Vernon, Jordan, Misi, Odrick and Shelby are parts of the grand scheme of things. IMO. well done by the Coaching and F/O for putting this together in a short time (2 seasons)

I would love to see Olivier Vernon used on the inside in some sort of "Nascar" package like that.

But that still would make him a bench player.

That 1st running play to start the game is what worries me about Vernon. He get's caught inside alot. To be honest CK I like Vernon more as Hybrid than a starting DE. I loved what he was doing as a stand up rusher/coverage LB, last season and in pre-season this year. I agree he's more of a rotational player.

I wasn't impressed with vernon this game but Joe Thomas likely had alot to do with that

Olivier Vernon currently ranks #16 out of 20 defensive ends in the 4-3 alignment that took at least 50% of their team's defensive snaps this weekend, in terms of PFF's signature statistic (not rating, statistic) called "Pass Rushing Productivity".

That formula is dictated simply by number of sacks, hits and hurries divided by the number of pass rushing snaps.

Joe Thomas = Best LT in the NFL. I wouldn't read too much into one game.,

I actually agree with that.

If you knew absolutely nothing about Olivier Vernon and you watched that game, it would be unwise for you to read too far into it because the bottom line is he faced one of the best in the league.

Thing is, I'm still waiting for Olivier Vernon to show us on the football field that he's got pass rush potential. I'm not talking about reports of the coaches being high on him, or how many snaps those coaches give him. I'm talking about go out onto the field and rush the passer well. I would love to see that happen. It hasn't happened yet.

But either way he has a STEEP UPHILL CLIMB in front of him because his own team drafted his replacement at #3 overall. They may try and get cute and position things differently, "Oh we're going to use all of them, it's going to be awesome!" but logistically it just doesn't work out that way. On a team where Cameron Wake and Dion Jordan both account for 900+ snaps each, on a team where your three linebackers are set at Dannell Ellerbe, Phil Wheeler and Koa Misi, there's not a lot of room for an Olivier Vernon to get very many snaps. Maybe 300 snaps.

And again, if you call that a bright future, all the power to you. I call it a bench player.
