Any word on Monroe?

Good news for Miami, but may have to overpay RT @mzenitz Per source, Ravens and Eugene Monroe remain "nowhere close" to getting a deal done

As the Ravens continue to haggle with left offensive tackle Eugene Monroe in negotiations that, according to sources, remain far apart, they are $24.929 million under the NFL salary-cap limit of $133 million.

They have the 10th most salary-cap space in the NFL, according to NFL Players Association figures.

That includes a first-year salary-cap figure of $3.2 million for tight end Dennis Pitta under his five-year, $32 million contract (which includes an $11 million signing bonus as part of $16 milliion guaranteed).

Barring a significant gap being bridged between now and Tuesday afternoon when the NFL free-agent signing period launches, sources predict that Monroe wiill test free agency, where he's expected to command hefty offers.

There was no advancement in talks Tuesday after the Ravens opted to not designate Monroe as their franchise player Monday, which would have cost them $11.654 million in salary and cap space for the 2014 league year. Talks are scheduled to continue.

Since the financial divide between the Ravens and Monroe has gradually become smaller since the sides met at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, sources emphasized that they could reach a compromise before he hits the open market.

If Monroe gets to free agency, it may be difficult to keep him, as several teams need offensive tackles, including the Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals and the Oakland Raiders.
