IMO, whoever gets the job will have a short tenure...

Saban set this franchise back years simply by electing to jet in the worst possible year for a coaching vacancy..

Maybe Im wrong, but I dont either Gailey or Cam has what it takes to turn this franchise around.. For this reason, I think WH should definately keep his option open over the next few years as better candidates come along..

I think with the way things have been going that most of the fan base is lacking confidence in every decision this team makes. I can already tell there are tons of people here who will be pissed no matter who gets the job. I think the with GM help, the new coach can be successful. This team, believe it or not, does have some good, young talent on both sides of the ball and that can only get better. So to answer your question, no I don't. I think we are heading in the right direction and I have complete confidence that whoever the new coach is can continue the process of becoming a winning team.

In the modern NFL, almost any coach is only going to get 2-3 years to turn things around. Even if Saban had stayed, and the Phins went 9-7 in his THIRD year, there would have been a LOT of unrest and calls for him to be fired, etc.

I'm actually thinking that we saved a year or two by having Saban bolt to Bama now. As long as Mularky isn't made HC, I'm willing to give the new coach two years to show progress.

Look at how the Saints or the Jets (kills me to credit them) have turned it around in just a year. A good draft, a key free agent or two. Most teams are just a few players away from 3-4 more wins.

With Cowher, Fisher being potentially available next year, not to mention a host of other coaches, it may be a one and done year unless we get back above .500. If its Cam or Gailey, they're both offensive minded so the offense is going to be expected to step up next year. If we flatline again, look for them to be given their walking papers

This is too acurate. The year of the dynasty is over my friends. Belichick may be the only coach to sit still for years to come, Cowher was the last. And even this year there was specualtion of Belichick's job being at risk due to his involvement in some scandalous affair. Any coach that wins 3 superbowls here can poke my wife if he wants to.

I don't really think Saban set us back at all. He had a pretty good draft in 2005 and a decent one in 2006. He signed some pretty good free agents and only went 15-17. What exactly did he do that makes us miss him so much?

The new guy is going to stay here and be committed to turning this thing around. I have 100% confidence in Wayne to get this one right and the new HC to get us into the post season.

GO FINS!

I agree with you to a point.

Saban did make some decent moves while here.
He made some questionable ones as well.

He did set us back though.
He set us back in stability and adding another question mark in an important position.
Saban was and still is a well respected top coach.
The fact that he didn't like the pressure of the NFL dosen't change the fact that he's still a good coach. When you lose a person that you counted on as being a top talent and then you have to replace him it sets you back.

In the end it's a good thing he stepped down early rather then dragging it on but still the organization took a hit.

The real death blow to this team that set us back had already left before Saban got here and that was Wanny and his personnel decisions. Set us back a long time.

I agree with Skape that we may very well be looking for a new coach again within a couple of years.

He is a BELOW AVERAGE NFL coach.

Saban couldn't cut it in the NFL so I wouldn't rate him as a "top coach". I would rather remain optimistic and believe our next HC will stick around for a while, however this team has significant problems IF Daunte does not come back to his Pro Bowl form of 2004 and if that happens whoever the coach is will probably suffer the consequences even though it was Saban who brought him here. On the other hand if Daunte DOES turn it around we should have a decent team and that might keep the next HC around for a while. All depends on Daunte IMHO. Scary huh? I believe in Daunte, but so much is riding on him it worries me.

I'd say there is a chance, there always is, I would be so negative as to say its a strong feeling.

Randy Mueller is going to be more key now than who the head coach is, if we have Capers all we need is a head man who can lead and in our case direct the offense.

Todays NFL is different than 20 years ago. Teams that are down can pick themselves up fairly quickly now a days with a couple good drafts and a few key free agent pickups. While it would seem bad now, a new coach may come in....have two good drafts and a good free agency off-season and in 2 years...we're 10-6. I dont think this is wishful thinking either. It happens with most teams. See the Saints.

Teams up and down periods go in waves now, and it seems that its no more than a couple years up and a couple years down. Of course, minus the Patriots who have been consistently in championship games.

If we get Gailey, then maybe. He has a heart condition...

The ideal situation would be a young guy who is able to do it. Wouldn't it be great to have a guy for several years? Here's to wishing.
