or if it means nothing?

The Miami Dolphins today signed the following five players to "future" contracts for the 2004 season. All five were on the Dolphins' practice squad in 2003.

Yeremiah Bell - S - E. Kentucky '03
Ronald Bellamy - WR - Michigan '03
Shawn Lynch - C - Duke '02
Carl Morris - WR - Harvard '03
Alphonso Roundtree - CB - Tulane '99

It just means that those guys are on the roster and will either be placed in NFL Europe or go through all the mini camps. Some could be training camp fodder. Others, like Bellamy, may have a shot at making the 53 man roster next year.

No instead of making that judgement, realize that three of those guys have a big chance of making next year's roster.

Bell should get a shot at FS. He was a projected first rounder until he blew his knee out in college. Hopefully he can be another Ogunleye for us.

First round is stetching it, but he could have a serious chance of making the roster next year.

Ronald Bellamy is a player the coaching staff and scouting department really liked. When they cut him off the 53 man roster, he didn't even clean out his locker. They told him that they were going to keep him on the PS.

Bellamy, Bell, and Roundtree were the only players that weren't cut off the practice squad at any point. Those three have a good chance of making it to the 53 man roster.
